My brief tenure at this organization got me the opportunity to automate its manufacturing. Manual operation was causing wastage of 7-8% of the total raw material on monthly basis and the yield couldn’t break the trend for almost 2 years. Business case was developed justifying automation and a cost benefit analysis was carried out to get approval from the management. Upon selecting a suitable vendor, the project was kicked off and completed within 2 months. After a month’s testing it was handed fully over to the operations team. Yield increased and raw material wastage was brought down to less than 3%. As a result, the company could book more profit from the very first quarter after the final handover. My role involved working with automation engineers, imbibing the knowledge they imparted to the operations staff, bridging communication gap between the trainers and our team, removing all kinds of hurdles in the path of the team working on automation and keeping the stakeholders satisfied throughout the duration of the project.
New business to company:
With increasing business running costs and competition in market, diversification was what the situation mandated. I proposed entering trading market along with manufacturing. With revised branding, improved brand visibility, motivated sales personnel and suitable credit negotiations with suppliers the company entered a new parallel business. Because the market analysis was done diligently, staff was hired with right skills required for the job and a clear roadmap was prepared the venture proved to be a success as all the purchased stock in the first quarter itself was sold at 35% gross margin and all creditors were paid off within agreed upon timelines.
