Research Interest

Application of Remote Sensing & GIS in Meteorology, Geosciences & Natural Disaster Modelling

Projects

1. Development of a Short-Term Heavy Rainfall Algorithm Using GNSS and Remote Sensing-Derived Tropospheric Parameters.

Research Project, Senior Research Fellow, Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur. [September, 2021 - Currently working]

  • Estimation of water Precipitable Water Vapour (PWV) in the atmosphere using GNSS data.
  • Validate accuracy of the GNSS-PWV with IGS-PWV reanalysis (ERA5) products.
  • Establish relationship between PWV and Rainfall to develop forecast model.
  • To develop early warning system for cloudbursts and flashfloods using thresholding method.
  • Use of MODIS data to establish relation between cloud top properties and rainfall.

2. Crustal Deformation and Earthquake Precursor studies using GNSS in North-Western Himalaya.

Major Project (August, 2019 - September, 2020), Master of Technology at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organization, Dehradun.

  • Estimated 1-D (Linear) strain using Baseline method in North-West Himalaya from the year 2014 to 2019 with the help of CORS and IGS data.
  • Measured crustal deformation parameters (inter-seismic strain rate in 2-D, rotation rate, dilation) using triangulation method in Northwest Himalaya with the help of GPS observations.
  • Used back-slip approach to measure the plate convergence rate in Kumaun Garhwal Himalaya.
  • Modeled pre-seismic ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC) for Himalayan earthquakes (Mw > 4.0) during the year 2019-2020 using GPS-TEC and GIM-TEC data.

3. Assessment of Reservoir Sedimentation using Landsat and Sentinel-1 datasets.

Case Study, Master of Technology at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space

Research Organization, Dehradun.

  • Mapped the water spread area of Ujjani and Rihand reservoir at different elevation levels using Landsat and Sentinel-1 data for the year 2017-2018.
  • Generated a revised elevation-area-capacity curve for both reservoirs.
  • Estimated rate of sedimentation and total loss of capacity of the reservoirs.

4. Potential Site Suitability Analysis for the Development of Tourist Place in Dehradun.

Minor Project, Master of Technology at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organization, Dehradun.

  • GIS based multi-criteria site suitability analysis was conducted to identify optimal locations in Dehradun that have the potential to develop into tourist destinations.

5. Development of an Avalanche Simulation Model

Minor Project, Master of Technology at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organization, Dehradun.

  • To create an animated video that effectively visualizes and explains the realistic movement of a snow slab sliding down a mountain slope during an avalanche.
