App DBA here mean the Applications DBA who knows entire architecture of the data system and is responsible of each and every object of the Database.

Major Responsibilities include

. Monitoring of all Daily Data Import Export Jobs. ( Shell scripts,Perl etc.) . Creating databases for Testing and Developments.

. Synchronizing Test & Development Databases with production databases . Purging / Archiving Activities.

. Code Deployment .

. Performance Tuning .

. Creating adhoc queries to create reports like Data mismatch between applications etc.

Won Kaizen Championship Award (2nd Prize) with amdocs, In this I created a shell script which replaced the core functionalities of Informatica ETL tool and saved around $2 million USD for at&t.

Here I was working with Barclayscard UK Datasetups. This particular setup was supporting more than 10 applications with 25+ Production servers and 80 odd Test and Developments servers. Where the version of Informix varied right from 7.14 to 11.5 including 7.31, 9.40, 10.0, 11.1. and The Operating System had a different story to tell since the Flavors of Unix were SCO-Unix, Solaris, AIX and HP.

The Challenging part here was not just the flavors of Unix or Versions of Informix. but it was the Zero Fault Tolerance of Banking sector. To support such diversified and sensitive datasetups My Key Responsibilities were.

. Continuously monitoring the Database and ensuring high performance and availability (LSS Checks).

. Managing availability of disk space (Chunks).

. Patching, Schema Migration & Data adjustment Activities

. Raising & addressing tickets, changes. Deciding its severity and effectively providing solution to client considering business impact.

Joined as a fresher and received a formal training on BaaN VI c4

Programming; Then after worked as an Informix Database Administrator to ensure uninterrupted availability of

BaaN IV c4 system Data to Godrej & Boyce Ltd. Users.

As an Informix DBA apart from routine support to Production system my standouts responsibilities were,

. Tuning the database by carrying out activities like Table Fragmentation, Re-organizing a Table & Creating tables with appropriate extent calculations to ensure optimized processing of Informix Dynamic Server.

. Scripting shells and scheduling crons jobs to generate alerts well before time to handle critical scenarios like Long Transaction etc.

. Timely setting up Test environment by creating new Informix Instance and Restoring latest Live Data set.
