IWG was formed in December 2018 with the support of the Global Fund Advocates Network Asia-Pacific (GFAN AP). It has been at the forefront in its demand to increase India’s domestic expenditure on health strongly, and invest in Global Fund which can be divested into communities affected by HIV, TB and Malaria across India. Through our rigorous advocacy measures with donor countries by sending letters to donor countries, high-level meetings with donor country representatives, and civil society meetings to amplify our demand for increased domestic financing and investment in Global Fund, we were able to contribute in the effort to make India pledge US$22 Million and successfully advocate for an increase in other countries funding to Global Fund in 6th Replenishment cycle.
The Global Coalition of TB Advocates (GCTA) is a global platform focusing on issue-based advocacy, capacity building, and improved representation in all decision-making of TB affected communities and other marginalized groups. Since its inception in March 2013, the GCTA has contributed significantly towards ensuring a people centered rights-based response to TB. We do so by ensuring that communities affected by TB are at the centre of all processes, and by championing issues identified by them as priority.
Global Coalition of TB Advocates took the lead to form a working group to enable meaningful engagement through capacity building of cross-disease networks including TB champions for successful short course TPT interventions among children and HHC in Delhi.
My Roles and Responsibilities are as follow:
Participate in monthly meeting
Participate in TPT Training
Support the working group in establishing monitoring indicators for cross-disease networks to report on short course TPT implementation
Create a demand generation among the community members on short course TPT
I am Volunteer for the TWEET Foundation (Transgender Welfare Equity and Empowerment Trust) and its mission is to build an empowered, self-sufficient, and vibrant Trans movement in India by wholly caring for the welfare of trans persons; their education, medical treatment, legal standing, and culture and social upliftment. The organization is established by transgender people for empowerment, education, equity, and health.
I am working with the organization for the last three years on various programs focused on transgender empowerment and skill-building, and leadership. Most of my work involves 1) coordination on the fellowship program, 2) looking into the strategic information & research, and 3) providing essential needed support for creating communication materials for transgender people.
With my work, I am creating crucial communication materials for young transgender men and women on empowerment messaging. I am supporting the organization to create 'gender-focused data on health, social well-being, crisis, and capacity building. I have been part of the shelter home initiative for transgender people and participated in various advocacy programs on transgender inclusion.
As a LGBTI+ Community person myself, I feel my work is substantial in bringing trans leadership and providing opportunities for transgender people like me to create social change toward 'transgender inclusion.
