Research

  • I am currently employed as an Assistant Breeder in the Tomato Breeding Division at Bioseed Research India, a unit of DCM SHRIRAM Ltd. My focus is on enhancing tomato yield, fruit quality and disease tolerance traits through breeding efforts.
  • I possess strong expertise in line development programs for tomato, utilizing various breeding methods and techniques such as pedigree breeding, backcrossing, test crossing, selfing, as well as proficiently employing emasculation and pollination techniques.
  • Engaged in targeted breeding for both hybrid development and line improvement crosses.
  • Managed various segregating materials to select for desirable traits.
  • Utilized backcross breeding techniques to introgress traits, including long shelf life genes and disease resistance genes Ty, Ph, bwr for the improvement of tomato lines.
  • Conducted screening trials across multiple locations in India for diseases such as LyCV, bacterial wilt, TOSPO, and early blight in tomatoes using sick plot techniques.
  • Traveled extensively throughout many locations in India to conduct Multi-Location Trials (MLT) and developed a robust understanding of Genotype by Environment interactions (GxE).
  • Proficient in planning, executing, and managing field experiments, as well as adept at data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Experienced in using plant breeding statistical analysis packages like AGROBASE/GENOVIX and GENSTAT.
  • Skilled in data collection, data management, and proficient in using spreadsheets in MS Excel.
  • Proficient in computer skills including MS Office applications, data analysis, and internet.
  • Knowledgeable in statistical designs such as Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), Completely Randomized Design (CRD), alpha lattice design, Augmented design, L×T design, etc,.
  • Excellent communication skills in Kannada, English, Hindi, and Telugu, facilitating effective networking, connectivity, and correspondence with partners in both private and public organizations.
  • Engaging with farmers to discuss our hybrids, their needs, and feedback during field events, and collaborating with various scientists during selections on field days and field visits.
  • Responsible for overseeing the procurement and upkeep of short and medium-term seed storage facilities, laboratory equipment, greenhouse supplies, and field equipment. Additionally, managing field staff and coordinating the hiring of contract laborers.
  • Previous experience as a Scientific Officer in the Sorghum Breeding Division at ICRISAT, focusing on the development and evaluation of sweet sorghum, high biomass sorghum, brown midrib (BMR) sorghum, and forage sorghum.
  • Conducted CERF experiments to assess tolerance to abiotic stresses such as drought and salinity, as well as resistance to biotic stresses.
  • Actively participated in several projects including Sweet Fuel, JCERDC, DBT-BMR, KSU, PSU, and DBT-Sugar Mill. Coordinated various aspects of these projects and contributed to report writing.
