Visa Direct is Visa’s cross-border money transfer platform, facilitating faster and more secure B2B and B2C payments. It involves the transfer of funds from corporate entities, including banks, financial institutions, and multinational corporations, to end-user accounts, and digital wallets worldwide.

As the Director of Technology for the Visa Direct Platform, I am responsible for the end-to-end software delivery of back-office capabilities within account and wallet payment flows. Our platform oversees the entire payment lifecycle, including ledger management, liquidity management, compliance, foreign exchange, and payment reconciliation.

  • My responsibilities include delivering scalable, active-active, high-performance software products. I oversee the development, support, and maintenance of six critical components within the Visa Direct ecosystem.
  • Lead a team of senior developers, architects, and QAs. Work with cross-functional teams like DevOps, certification, UAT, etc. And own end-to-end delivery of Visa Direct Back Office Toft features.
  • I collaborate closely with stakeholders, such as product managers and product operations teams, to define annual operating plans (AOP), quarterly planning, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and to identify key epics and features. I then work closely with development squads to ensure the successful development, testing, performance testing, and deployment of these features.
  • I have successfully led the Back Office Toft team, comprising five squads and up to 40 team members, including senior managers, managers, developers, QA engineers, and architects. I possess extensive experience in managing consulting partnerships.
  • Additionally, I played a pivotal role in building teams from the ground up, notably in establishing the Visa Processing Limited (VPL) team, expanding it from inception to a team of 110 members. I coached the team through the transition of the product from an existing vendor, driving this development to completion within a six-month timeframe.
  • Furthermore, I contributed to enhancing the platform by developing wallet functionalities and flexible settlement capabilities within the existing product infrastructure.
  • Developed high-performing teams by providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Cultivated a positive work environment that fostered employee engagement, increased retention rates, and boosted overall team morale.
  • Improved project efficiency with strategic planning, resource allocation, and time management practices.
  • Enhanced team collaboration through regular communication, goal setting, and performance evaluations.

Vice President, Technology

Morgan Stanley Advantage Services Pvt. Ltd.
09.2014 - 06.2021

I conceived and developed the Financial Wellness product as part of the @Work initiative, starting from the initial concept, and adopting an MVP approach to deliver incremental business value. This involved continuously enhancing features and integrating feedback obtained through iterative user research. In the first phase, we launched a public, unauthenticated version of the application, followed by the addition of features such as gamification. Currently, I am overseeing the rollout of an authenticated version of the product, integrated within Morgan Stanley’s public-facing website.

  • I have successfully led teams ranging from 5 to 20 members in the development and support of products, providing research-driven insights into technology design, development, testing, and deployment processes. In my current role, I serve as Chapter Lead for two squads, consisting of team members with expertise in Angular (5), AEM (3), Java (2), and .NET (5).
  • As Chapter Lead, my responsibilities encompass fostering mastery within Agile practices. I act as a liaison with business stakeholders, translating business requirements into comprehensive solutions across one or multiple products. I collaborate with technical teams to ensure effective product delivery, emphasizing adherence to coding and design best practices, quality standards, timely delivery, and automation coverage. The Chapter Lead role functions as a servant leadership position, where I enable squad members to succeed by offering guidance, strategic vision, and support as needed.
  • I am hands-on with both front-end and back-end technologies, including Java, Angular 8, JavaScript, TypeScript, microservices architecture, SQL and NoSQL databases, and digital content management systems such as AEM, Adobe Launch, Adobe Analytics, and TeamSite.
  • I possess a thorough understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies. I was actively involved in Morgan Stanley’s Agile and DevOps transformation, serving as part of a small initial team trained in Agile practices, and subsequently responsible for disseminating knowledge and fostering cultural change within the organization.
  • Prior to my work on Financial Wellness, I contributed to multiple applications at Morgan Stanley, including Guide, 3DR, Pitchbook, and Chart Books.
