PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Carrying out complex technical radiotherapy procedures on treatment unit and in simulators.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guiding, instructing and encouraging patients receiving Brachytherapy and External Radiotherapy & giving advice to patients on necessary aftercare.
- Assessing patient’s level of knowledge before commencing with treatment and thus participating in the informed consent process.
- Providing appropriate information regarding long and short-term side effects or referring on as required.
- All daily routine checks of equipment are carried out and report faulty equipment or suspected faults to the physicists.
PRE-TREATMENT:
- Planning of patients, giving advice and support to patient’s as required.
- Producing immobilization devices as required.
- Working in the Mould Room.
TREATMENT:
- Delivering radiotherapy treatment to a high level of accuracy using hand, eye and sensory co-ordination at a speed which enables a reasonable throughput of patients. (The throughput depends upon the unit and the complexity of the work).
- Observing the Local Rules for radiation safety.
- Taking care of health and safety of patients, and visitors.
- Participating in the weekend on-call system.
- To assist physicists with quality assurance checks
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
- To demonstrate the use of equipment to visitors
