Automotive Plastic Design using CATIA V5

1. Automotive Door panel Design using CATIA V5 •

Aim: Development of a Door Trim panel CAD model considering following inputs as like in OEM and tier1 companies..

• Procedure: Using the given Door inner panel CLASS-A surface, create tooling axis, Class-B surface, Class-C surface and Final close surface model for Door arm rest, Lower substrate, upper and lower map pockets in the surface workbench and convert surface model into solid part using the close surface command. Then creating all the required engineering features on the B side of components and performing the Draft analysis Test to ensure the parts are manufacturable. Then Create final assembly of the door trim components.

• Learnt different operations in Catia Surface workbench, Learned and get experience in plastic design methods and procedures followed in the OEM companies. Leaned about engineering features like heat stakes, locators, doghouse and their function and designing methods with industrial standards.

2. A-Pillar design with master section using CATIA V5

• Aim: To create an A-pillar using the given CLASS-A surface and Master section.

Procedure: Create Tooling axis, Class-B surface, Class-C surface using the given Class-A surface and master section. Create solid body part out of the designed closed surface model and then design engineering features like Doghouse, ribs and locators and attach to the A-pillar part body by using Boolean operations. Perform Draft analysis for the final plastic component.

• Successfully completed A-pillar design and learnt various industrial standards in plastic designing
