While working as a cook for almost three years, I have learned many things. The most important, is being able to be organized and calm under pressure as to not limit the efficiency of the cooking done for the orders. Next, I also learned how to be clean and organized to meet strict standards set by the restaurant at all times. My volunteer work has filled in the gaps where my job may fall short, the biggest one is communication. In the kitchen, we talk all the time about orders but not truly to each other. In my volunteer work, I can connect with people on a more personal level than working in a busy kitchen.
