Workdetails

The Hydrocracker is a two-stage unit that has been designed to produce middle distillates of superior quality. The process is licensed to BPCL by Chevron Lummus Global LLC (CLG). Working as an DCS/PANNEL operator in Hydrocracker Unit, performing routine operational duties like monitoring the plant in terms of general and critical conditions which involves checking of pumps (hot/cold) syndine / reciprocating / centrifugal, compressor, exchanger, lube system, pump seal oil system, control valves and strokes, reboiler, fractionator, ejectors, furnace, fin fans, pump turbine, flame arresters, Dr. Test for kerosene and naphtha.

  • Accepts shift from off-going Operator with detailed log sheet of operational adjustment and changes during previous shift and hands over job and completed own log sheet.
  • Carries out regular and detailed inspection of all rotating equipment used in operations such as, electric motors, gas and steam driven turbines, pumps, centrifugation unit and compressors, etc., as well as static equipment such as column, vessels, heater, and heat exchangers to ensure accurate and proper functioning of each item independently and in synchronization with other equipment.
  • Adjusts manually a variety of valves and switches governing rate flow of fluids or gases and levels, pressure, temperature and chemical to ensure the correct output of specified products.
  • Carries out independently various adjustments, line-up systems for day to day operations activities, such as transfers, blending, addition of chemicals, diversion of products route at battery limits, advises control room immediately of abnormalities or difficulties in operations.
  • Reads and logs readings at regular specified intervals from indicators and gauges or instruments located on equipment in the operating area. Records and advises control room operator of apparent deviations from specified operating conditions and adjusts as required.
  • Carries out the required activities as directed during shutdown and start-up operation by adjusting and monitoring the alterations of speeds, temperatures, and pressure and flow rates as necessary. Implements emergency procedures in case of abnormal operations and directed by supervisors.
  • Prepares, upon receiving instruction, equipment for maintenance activities such as manual isolation, depressurization and draining. Follows-up maintenance work in assigned area to ensure that jobs are progressing and work permit conditions are being adhered to. Pre-commission and commission equipment after completion of maintenance work, participates and monitors equipment during the tests.
  • Carries out simple maintenance work such as blinding, de-blinding of smaller size pipelines, fixes minor leaks of steam/condensate, and connects/disconnects fittings of flexible hoses and grease isolating valves to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Work permit check and ensure the job activity (cold/hot) carried out safely. Also ensure the good housekeeping in plant.
  • Changeover of pumps cold/hot with standby availability, priming of pumps after maintenance, pump handover for maintenance, steam hoses lineup, nitrogen purging etc.
  • Off spec product rout to product recirculation line. Also put the unit on internal circulation once it is started from cold until the normalization of feed.
  • Also performing the pressure relief valve survey, heat exchanger leak test, LOTO, close checkup of equipment’s after maintenance (many missing’s found due to human error and lack of communication).
  • Involvement in commissioning, startup, troubleshooting & stabilization of unit.
  • Checking fire and gas detection system, fire water deluge system for various hot pumps and fin fans.
  • Strong knowledge in plant hazard, H2S awareness, work permit system & LOTO for maintenance.
  • Well awareness with process instruments (control valve, PT, FT, TT, LT, QR), ESD logic and safeguarding, DSC/PLC system.
  • Preparation/updating of equipment and instruments datasheets e.g. control valves, Pumps and exchangers.
  • Knowledge of refinery related software packages like LIMS.
  • Good knowledge of international practices adopted by various industries, well aware of regulation and standards related to Process and Process Safety and their application with engineering standards.
  • Handled the plant well safe in emergencies e.g. unfortunate shutdown and total power failure.

Worked in Hydrogen Generation Unit. EPC project Active participation in mechanical completion walkthrough P&ID review and suggestion. Assisting seniors for preparation and review of documents like, blind list preparation, flushing and blowing plan for loop wise system.

  • Conducted daily product sampling, with LPG, flue gas and hydrocarbon, took process equipment readings, and maintained the daily filed activity and maintenance log book.
  • Absorption, Adsorption chambers, fractionators column, stabilizer column, diesel, heavy naphtha stripper, knock out drums. Oil and gas fired heaters. Fin fans, salt tower and caustic wash drum. Coalescer for feed and products. Active participation in replacement of catalyst.
  • Steam spalling for heaters tube. Handled various chemicals, like DMDS, sulphuric acid, Caustic, Executing all kinds of operation.
  • Smooth operation of RCSV and SCSV
