Prospection and value addition of indigenous foods and vegetable crops of cold desert regions of Western Himalayas for livelihood and nutritional security”

  • We isolated a yeast strain from Dhali found in Bharmour, Himachal Pradesh and used the yeast cell pellet as starter culture for preparation of Sur, a traditional local alcoholic beverage made from rice, sugar and jaggery.
  • Research paper in progress: “Metagenomic and functional profiling of Dhali, a starter culture consortium for traditional alcoholic beverage of western Himalaya.”

DISSERTATION WORK

Completed dissertation work on "Evaluation of Biofilm formation by Cronobacter species and determining MIC of Probiotics CFS against Cronobacter species"

  • Major achievements of the dissertation work includes significant zone of inhibition by probiotic CFS against 3 strong biofilm forming Cronobacter sp.
  • MIC of 20ul was determined which depreciated the biofilm forming ability of the Cronobacter sp.

I am inclined towards research in the field of antimicrobial resistance, probiotics, dietary fiber and its effect on gut microbiota, nutritional analysis of food products, cell culture and cancer therapy involving novel molecular techniques

Accomplishments

  • Qualified CSIR-UGC NET-LS with AIR 36 held in December 2023.
  • Qualified GATE-XL held in February 2024.

Workshops Attended

One month Vritika workshop on "In vitro simulation of gut environment to determine bio-accessibility of functional ingredients from foods" held form 20 June 2022 to 19th July, 2022. 

  • Extraction of whey proteins and determination of their antioxidant activity from milk.
  • To simulate colonic batch fermentation
  • Fecal sample preparation and batch fermentation.

  • My weakness include Introversion and impatience.
