With a distinguished career at Brown & Williamson and as an elected official for Floyd County Government, I excel in financial oversight, strategic planning, and effective meeting facilitation. The Council is the fiduciary body for the county. We approve budgets and ensure proper revenue streams to support the budget. I am an elected official, so my boss is really the people of Floyd County.
This role includes approving spending and financing of annual operating budgets for all departments within the county as well as approving all spending and financing of capital projects.
This role also include approving new tax rates to insure proper financing for both operating and capital needs.
We work with a financial group who prepare 5 year plans and advise us on new statutory requirements.
We meet at least twice a month to approve and discuss ongoing needs. These meeting do require some preparation and analysis.
During my 38 years at B&W I held many jobs in the finance departments, including accounting, planning, system implementation and more.
I helped implement to new systems, developed financial reports and traveled to many different countries to preform training on newly implemented financial systems.
Also during my tenure, supported month-end close activities, preparing journal entries, account analyses, and variance explanations for review by senior management.
I was also involved in collecting and compiling financial plans from offices across the globe, in order to assemble a global plan for the company.
