  • Title of the project: Degradation of textile dye (Methyl Orange) in an aqueous suspension by photocatalytic nanoparticles Tio2/Ag immobilised in U.V. Irradiated Alginate beads.
  • Guide: Project was done under the guidance of Mr. Suresh Gosavi sir (HOD of Physics and Environment Dept. At Pune University).
  • Problem statement: To overcome the problem of toxicity in potable water by textile dye industries, Nanoparticles were introduced in this experimentation.
  • How?
  • Photocatalytic degradation method was used in this experimentation. Nanoparticles were synthesized using hydrothermal technique and to make it more efficient nanoparticles were doped with metal ion (silver nitrate). Commercial Titanium dioxide and precursor (TTIP) derived titanium dioxide is used in synthesis of Nanoparticles for photocatalytic degradation of Methyl Orange dye. To decrease the loss of NP, it was encapsulated/ immobilised in sodium Alginate beads. Beads were treated in U.V. chamber to optimise the porosity for efficient degradation of dye.
  • End result: After collecting aliquot of dye suspension during photocatalytic degradation, semi-transparent solution was conducted. After performing analytical techniques nanoparticles doped with silver nitrate exhibit maximum amount of degradation.
