  • During my Ph.D tenure, I have worked on different binder system such as polyurethane, epoxy, acrylics, alkyds, polyester etc and formulated high solids solvent borne and water borne thermosetting coating systems
  • The synthesized resins were characterized for molecular weight by GPC and MALDI, viscosity by Ford cup No 4 and Brookfield viscometer, structure was analyzed by FTIR and NMR studies
  • Curing of formulated coatings was followed by FTIR, NMR, DMTA, TGA and DSC analysis
  • Post-cured coatings (clear coat) were studied for their thermal (TGA, DSC, DMTA), mechanical (hardness, tensile strength, % elongation), surface properties (contact angle, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and accelerated weathering resistance (Q-UV test) properties
  • Pigmented coatings were formulated using Fe2O3 and TiO2 and their humidity and salt-spray resistance were evaluated
  • Filled coatings were also prepared using BaSO4 and CaCO3 and their property analyzed
  • These studies resulted different new approaches and a number of high impact international publications.
  • Dr K.V.S.N Raju is Editorial board of the Journal “Progress In Organic Coatings”.
