During my housestaffship in the Cardiology Department, I gained extensive exposure to the diagnosis, management, and treatment of various cardiovascular conditions. This experience was pivotal in enhancing my clinical skills and understanding of cardiology.

A. Clinical Responsibilities

Patient Evaluation:

• Conducted thorough histories and physical examinations for patients presenting with cardiac symptoms, including chest pain, dyspnea, and palpitations.
• Assisted in interpreting diagnostic tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, and cardiac biomarkers.

Ward Management:

• Managed daily care for inpatients, monitoring vital signs, laboratory results, and adjusting treatment plans under supervision.
• Coordinated with nursing staff to ensure comprehensive care and effective communication with patients and families.

Interventional Procedures:

• Assisted in cardiac catheterizations and other minimally invasive procedures, learning the procedural steps and the significance of sterility and patient safety.
• Participated in stress tests and Holter monitoring, gaining insight into non-invasive diagnostic methods.

B. Patient Interactions

• Building Rapport: Developed strong relationships with patients, ensuring a supportive environment for discussing sensitive health issues related to cardiovascular health.
• Patient Education: Educated patients about lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, and the importance of regular follow-ups, fostering proactive management of their conditions.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Worked closely with cardiologists, nurses, and dietitians to create individualized care plans, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in improving patient outcomes.

During my MBBS internship, I participated in various clinical rotations, Majorly including Surgery, Gynecology, Ortho, Medicine, etc. Each rotation provided a comprehensive exposure to patient care, hands-on procedures, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

This internship experience solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine, emphasizing the importance of patient-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
