I am a medical graduate from Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU), Ukraine, having completed my MBBS in 2019. I successfully cleared the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in the same year. Since then, I have been actively working towards establishing a medical career in the UK, achieving several significant milestones.
To further enhance my clinical skills and gain valuable experience in the UK healthcare system, I completed a clinical attachment at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London.
I am a compassionate and dedicated medical professional with a strong focus on providing exceptional patient care and managing medical emergencies. I excel in fostering positive relationships with patients and families, ensuring clear and empathetic communication of medical information. Additionally, I am adept at collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping. My organizational skills and attention to detail make me well-equipped to handle the demands of a fast-paced medical environment.
I completed a clinical attachment in Obstetrics and Gynecology at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill, London, where I gained valuable insight into the workings of the NHS and its approach to patient care. My weekly schedule included rotations through the labor ward, antenatal and gynecology clinics, the IVF clinic, and the gynecology theatre, providing broad exposure to various aspects of obstetric and gynecological care.
During this attachment, I actively observed and assisted in key clinical procedures, including abdominal examinations, fetal heart rate monitoring, and speculum examinations alongside senior house officers (SHOs) and consultants. I also collected patient histories and presented cases during ward rounds, enhancing my clinical reasoning and case presentation skills.
This experience deepened my understanding of NHS services in obstetrics and gynecology, particularly through participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings where complex cases were discussed with great attention to patient welfare. The collaborative atmosphere and commitment to patient care inspired my desire to work within the NHS.
Additionally, I developed strong documentation skills, adhering to hospital protocols and utilizing electronic records effectively. Through patient interactions, I refined my communication skills, particularly in counseling and engaging with patients and their families. My attachment also reinforced my knowledge of GMC guidelines and ethical standards, emphasizing the importance of good medical practice and professional conduct.
I completed a 12-month internship at A.A. Rahim Memorial District Hospital in Kerala, India, following GMC guidelines. This 537-bed multi-specialty hospital is among the best-equipped government hospitals in the region, playing a pivotal role in managing complex COVID-19 cases, including severe pneumonia and related complications during the pandemic.
During my internship, I gained comprehensive experience across various departments, including General Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Dermatology, Orthopaedics & PMR, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesia, Community Medicine, ENT, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Surgery. My rotations provided extensive exposure to both outpatient and inpatient care.
In the Medicine rotation, I developed strong diagnostic and clinical management skills, handling cases involving diabetes, thyroid disorders, hypertensive crises, and infectious diseases. My responsibilities included patient history taking, conducting thorough clinical examinations, and managing COVID-19 patients in wards and ICUs. I also conducted sample collection for laboratory testing and maintained precise documentation of patient conditions, treatment plans, and hospital stays, ensuring seamless shift handovers. Communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) was integral to my role, enhancing patient care and understanding of treatment options.
I actively participated in MDT meetings, clinical discussions, and continued education sessions, further strengthening my clinical acumen. In the outpatient setting, I independently managed over 80 patients with common conditions, making timely referrals when necessary. In the inpatient setting, I monitored patient progress, documented daily vitals, implemented treatment plans, and coordinated discharges and follow-ups under senior consultants’ supervision.
My Emergency Medicine rotation involved managing over 400 emergency cases across medical, surgical, obstetric, and paediatric emergencies. I performed rapid patient assessments using the ABCDE approach and executed various procedures, including IV cannulation, blood sampling, suturing, wound care, and ascitic and pleural tapping. Additionally, I assisted in trauma management and orthopedic procedures such as fracture and dislocation reductions. Effective communication and coordination with MDTs ensured timely and appropriate interventions in critical situations.
This internship provided me with a solid foundation in clinical practice, honing my diagnostic, procedural, and communication skills essential for delivering high-quality patient care in diverse medical settings.
