• During MBBS, During IInd year of MBBS visited and participated in street plays and health awareness programs organized by the community medicine department in nearby villages of Coimbatore. Worked in Poolavapatty Village, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu Primary Health Center for a period 3 months as a part of community medicine curriculum during internship. Cases examined: Bronchial Asthma, dog/cat bite, Snake bite, LRTIs, Paracetamol poisoning, systemic hypertension, Type2 Diabetes Mellitus. Assisted 2 normal vaginal deliveries. Organized medical camps in the nearby villages of Coimbatore District during local festival and examined and treated common conditions like trauma, fever, URTIs. Participated in various Health Awareness Camps in and around Poolvapatty village, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu regarding anemia during pregnancy and the need for treatment, breastfeeding and maternal nutrition. Vedapatti PSG Health Centre Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu Worked for a period of one month under the guidance of health officer. Cases Examined: Congestive cardiac failure, anemia, LRTIs, Short febrile illness and pediatric cases like bronchiolitis and pneumonia, trauma, systemic hypertension, Type 2 diabetes. Did a Short Term project on the percentage of LRTIs and its severity among children in response to treatment. This survey was taken from the register maintained for patients visiting the center.
• During Post Graduation in General Medicine (2015-16), Visited rural areas in and around Pondicherry and Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Organized medical camps in which free drugs and treatment advice was given among the poor people and the underprivileged. Also participated in health awareness camps on non-communicable diseases and maternal health and its importance. Participated in disaster relief camps in 2015 in kurinchipadi district, Tamil Nadu, during the severe monsoon rains 2015. Some of the places visited in Pondicherry and Tamil Nadue States through medical camps are Parangipettai, Thirukovillar Neyveli, Nellikuppam Panchavati, Bhuvanagiri. Patients who needed additional care special transport facilities to our hospital were arranged and they were admitted and treated to the fullest. A conference paper was presented on genetic disorder: from Patients diagnosed during camps. For instance, when I visited Parangipettai Primary Health Centre. I encountered a middle age muslim lady who was mute and deaf since childhood who had complaints of atypical chest pain. She was undergoing treatment for hypertensive. We admitted her and CAG was done after basic investigation. It was found that she had situs inversus with dextrocardia with normal coronaries. This case was presented as a paper and genetic studies are in the stream line. Based on this case, a population study was planned with hospital doctors for the people in Parangipettai who are mute and deaf.
