  • It is designed as per ASME Code Section III Class1 NF Component Support Structure, totally for remote operation
  • 220 Mwe Drive mechanism assemblies
  • Drive Mechanisms are the drive units for the neutron absorbing rods called Shut-off Rods, Control Rods and Adjuster Rods
  • These rods are attached to stainless steel wires ropes top end of which are wound on sheaves in their respective DMS
  • Drive Mechanisms of both Shut-off Rods and Control Rod are identical, while Adjuster Rod Drive mechanism is different and simpler with respect to the former
  • Responsibilities
  • Thoroughly analyzed all assembly drawings and specifications
  • Identified the components as per part drawings and assembly drawings
  • Ensured all components are inspected as per part drawings
  • Making use of specifications and drawings that there is any pressure test or leak tests for the sub-assemblies or components by using suitable plugs
  • Performed all mechanical assembly operations by using hand tools and machines
  • Carried out various types of mechanical assembly related operations

  • CSRDM Assemblies:
  • Control & Safety Rod Drive Mechanisms (CSRDM) are part of reactor assembly and are housed in Control Plug
  • They are in-line with CSRs in reactor core
  • CSRDM facilitates start-up and controlled shut-down of reactor power by raising and lowering of CSR and shutdown of the reactor on abnormal conditions by rapid insertion of CSR (i.e., by scram action) into the core under gravitational force
  • DSRDM Assemblies:
  • Diverse Safety Rod Drive Mechanisms (DSRDM) are housed in Control Plug and are in-line with the respective absorber rods in the core
  • DSRDM facilitates shutdown of the reactor on abnormal conditions by rapid insertion of DSR (i.e., by scram action) into the core under gravitational force
  • This specification establishes the technical requirements for manufacture of DSRDM
  • Main IFTM Assembly:
  • Inclined Fuel Transfer Machine (IFTM) has been designed to facilitate the exchange of these sub-assemblies from the reactor to fuel building
  • IFTM is one of the important machine for PFBR (Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor)
  • The availability of the PFBR plant also depends on the availability of IFTM
  • Responsibilities
  • Ensured all components are inspected as per part drawings
  • Making use of specifications and drawings that there is any pressure test or leak tests for the sub-assemblies or components by using suitable plugs
