I am Harshini S R, I hail from a small rural town Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. I hold a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from NIT Trichy class of 2022. I am a passionate climate enthusiast, with an ardent desire to serve the community using my education. I am a researcher with an interest in venturing into social entrepreneurship to combat climate change and achieve sustainable developmental goals. I am a polyglot, who loves speaking many languages. I always consider books as my best friends, so I am a voracious reader which makes me a bibliophile too.

  • I founded a youth-led organization MINMINI, on a mission to serve nature and its people by combating climate change at Namakkal, Tamil Nadu.
  • Working on strengthening the rural economy through sustainable business models to combat climate change.
  • In specific I am working on a project named Project Eradicate Prosopis Juliflora, the aim of the project, is to eradicate Prosopis Juliflora trees since these trees are widespread across various states of India so disruptive technologies like AI and drones will be used to gather information like location, population density, and growth patterns of these trees and possibly after uprooting them plant new Palmyra trees based on the local biodiversity because they replenish the groundwater levels.
  • The target audience would be the local villagers and farmers especially those who are severely affected by the problem of water scarcity caused by Prosopis Juliflora trees.
  • Also, our organization is into recycling of used refill pens and various other stationeries collected from schools, colleges and universities and making them into useful products.
  • Recycling of plastics collected from polluted water bodies and doing value addition to them and generating circular economy around it.

  • I worked as a design engineer intern at a rapidly growing space startup, Manastu Space which manufactures affordable sustainable technologies like green propulsion and debris collision avoidance systems for satellites
  • My immense contribution led to improved productivity and performance of a few processes in the sub-system
  • Design optimization: After intense research on injector designs by doing literature surveys
  • I came up with a novel design idea, and so did the injector design optimization of a previous design which was part of a hydrogen peroxide-based monopropellant system
  • On optimizing the design, the injector flange's mesh breakage decreased drastically while firing at a ground setup
  • Design of mechanical components: I designed various mechanical components using Solidworks which are integral parts of the thrusters of green propellant systems for satellites to avoid collision with space debris
  • One of which includes, designing of bending fixture that is used for making spiral-shaped injector capillary tubes
  • This fixture improved the utility, repeatability, and performance of the injector during both continuous and pulse-mode firing
  • Later, I designed a 2-litre propellant tank which is used in the ground test setup

Final year project thesis


  • Vortex-induced vibration of circular cylinder suspended using springs in a subsonic wind tunnel:
    Under the guidance of Dr. Kaushik, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Strouhal number of a circular cylinder was measured experimentally by varying the velocity of the free stream air inside the wind tunnel, the air is made to pass around the circular cylinder, which was attached to low stiffness springs inside the test section.
  • Studied the change in behavior of the oscillating cylinder, when its vortex is being disturbed using another bluff body kept at a certain distance from the center of the vibration-induced cylinder.
