Merpay Inc. is the mobile payment service for parent company Mercari Inc, is the largest C2C company in Japan. It believes in Building trust for a seamless society. Together with Mercari, it created an ecosystem offering new kinds of distribution, selling, buying, and credit services. With Merpay users can pay 2.34 Million stores in Japan. Was responsible of the Bank platform team owning the system interfacing with Japanese banks and payment gateways. It basically the “Gateway” for financial institutes for Mercari group of companies. It caters the services like Bank service handling fund recharge, user payout, partner payout and top up services.


  • Bank Service : Responsible for bank related activities for customers like Bank account management, bank transfer and fund recharge to customer’s wallet.
  • User Payout : This service enable customers to withdraw their balance to their bank account.
  • Partner Payout: This service enables Merpay payment partners to get the money in their bank accounts.
  • Top Up Service : This service enable users to top up their wallet from Bank ATM machines.

  • Purchase History service used to showing order history of shopper along with other important details like shipping status , review etc. (used by 20 million+ monthly active user)
  • Inquiry History service is used by merchants and shoppers to communicate on product inquiries and subsequent resolution.
  • R-coupon service is used by merchants for creating coupon for providing discount on selling items in Ichiba.

Role & Responsibility:

  • Service Ownership & Accountability for high scale E-commerce services (~ 20,000 QPS) for 5+ years used by 40 million+ monthly active user and contributing ~15% of overall GMS

Disclosure system was developed with Polaris’s pioneer product Intellectflow. This system enabled branch office to create Disclosure Request (Workitem) and introduces it in the system for full disclosure. The Workitem then processed through a highly complex workflow process getting it routed to various queues using a thin client (Web-Based) utility. As the part of processing, the system need to communicate with a mainframe system (ATOLAS) to capture the customer related information through MQ servcie and a web-service to capture the disclosure related information. With this implementation an extensive MIS system with complex SQL queries were build to adhere to applicable disclosure laws in Japan.
