Summary

I moved to Doha Qatar while remaining with Clariant. I spent time as an account manager and then district manager managing operations and chemical sales for Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait the latterly Qatar and West Pakistan and then Qatar and Turkey. Until now I have spent a total of 16 years at Clariant where I am currently employed in the position of district manager overseeing all business in Qatar and Turkey.

I have managed the growth in sales in Qatar from $1million/year to $4 million/year while working with Clariant. I also created $3.5 million business in Bahrain form scratch. In Kuwait I helped grow and support the business through a number of tender wins up to the value of $4.5 million/year while working with Clariant.

Throughout my career I have worked closely with such customers as BP, Shell, Total, Nexen, WoodGroup, Chevron, Talisman, Qatar Petroleum, QatarEnergy, QatarGas, Total Energies, Maersk, North Oil Company, KOC (Kuwaiti Oil Company). Work Locations - I have also worked in several countries and oilfields such as UK, Norway, Denmark, Angola, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and the USA.

My Technical Strengths and Experience I have a good all-round knowledge of oil and gas production. I am well versed in production chemistry procedures and protocols and hold a wealth of chemical application engineering experience along with extensive on-the-job process optimisation techniques and skills.

Project Management I have recently successfully delivered Clariant’s Technical and Commercial bids for the Wet Gas Corrosion Inhibitor Supply for the North Field Expansion Tender for QatarGas. Previously I oversaw the building of the chemical storage site in Bahrain for the supply of Downhole Corrosion Inhibitor for Tatweer Petroleum. I also oversaw the chemical Treatment Program Implementation of the corrosion Inhibitor to over 200 wells. This involved the purchase and design of two specially designed treater trucks which were a first for the region and the management of 5 personnel including an Account Manager, 2 Field Engineers and two treater truck drivers.

Corrosion Management I have detailed working knowledge and lab experience of mixed fluid and gas corrosion inhibitor performance testing and selection in oil and wet gas systems. I also have field experience and knowledge of measurement of residual CI concentration and general corrosion monitoring techniques including use of ER monitoring probes and software and use of corrosion coupons and weight loss analysis techniques. I have also experience of monitoring for Fe and Mn concentrations for corrosion rate determination.

Scale Management I have experience using scale prediction modelling programs and knowledge of the scale inhibitor selection process. I have also been involved with scale monitoring and management, scale inhibitor stress testing and designing and performing scale inhibitor squeeze campaigns. I have field experience and knowledge of measurement of residual SI concentration as well as method development experience. Previous work included Steam Flood Scale Inhibitor Squeeze data interpretation.

Water Clarification/Reverse Demulsifiers I have extensive experience in water clarification with product selection, application, and implementation. I have blended water clarifiers, commercialised final products for sale to market and have extensive global field trial and water clarifier bottle-testing experience. I successfully managed to improve the OIW on the PS2 and PS3 platform by selecting and developing a water clarifier that improved OIW by 59% and 33% respectively.

Demulsifiers I have formulated and trialed various demulsifiers on oil and condensate systems and can optimise process systems to maximize oil production and dehydration to enhance demulsifier performance. I have won various demulsifier accounts by successfully performing field trials and by submitting sucessful commercial bids. I managed to achieve 100% application and treatment of demulsifier to all incoming gross fluids to Halul Island which includes 3 demulsifier supply accounts.

Biocides I have application, selection and monitoring knowledge of all types of commonly used Biocides and their deployment in the field.

Hydrates/KHI I have some application and selection knowledge of KHI’s and other types of hydrate inhibitors and their interaction with Corrosion Inhibitors.

  • In 2014 I received a double promotion, first being promoted from an Account Manager to Country Manager and then again to District Manager.
  • I am currently still fulfilling the role of District Manager for Clariant Oil Services based in Qatar and overseeing all aspects of Clariant’s interests in Qatar and Turkey, I previously also looked after Bahrain, West Pakistan and Kuwait. I grew these businesses and handed them over to another candidate.
  • This role requires me to be responsible for each country in all aspects of management from sales to operations and for Qatar I have a full P&L responsibility for >CHF4.5 million which I have grown from CHF1 million over the last few years
  • Main accountabilities include, achieving sales targets and developing the business in each country while strengthening the brand of Clariant.
  • I am responsible for compiling technical and commercial tender submissions for all projects and for the continued maintenance and extension of current customers contracts and ongoing business
  • I am involved in overseeing specialty oilfield chemical product development, product selection and coordinating technical projects to qualify Clariant's products for each tender.
  • I carryout daily, weekly, and monthly customer interfacing and support existing business on a technical and commercial level.
  • I support other districts within the Gulf region by carrying out joint projects and participating in collaborative technology exchanges
  • From time to time, I also participate in field visits, conduct health checks, filed trials and interface directly with customers on a technical level.
  • I am the key representative for Clariant Oil and Mining Services in Qatar and Turkey and previously I was overseeing our sales in Kuwait and Bahrain where I worked under my own direction applying my own sales strategy.
  • Part of my job also involved managing and interfacing with contractors, sales representatives, field engineers and I worked closely with the Qatar Operations Manager whose duties was to support me to manage all operational aspects of Clariant’s business in Qatar.
  • This included management of the 3rd party vendors, interfacing with our 3rd party toll blender, management of the chemical stock in our storage warehouse including the tank filling operations and the supervision of various vendor operations including transport and deliveries.
  • I am involved in assisting with tender applications for new and existing business and I support the regional manager and the business development manager in developing new business in Qatar and Turkey with occasional support to other countries such as Oman and the UAE. Recent tender submission was for a project worth $18million/year.
  • I am also involved in initiating new technical projects and assisting in the formulating and developing of new products including demulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors and water clarifiers.

  • The role often called for daily interfacing with the customer through emails and by telephone
  • Other General Roles within, I also carried out internal audits; project-based work and used to maintain the chemical demand planning system to support the supply chain.

  • My earlier role within Clariant involved looking after all chemical aspects of a number of BP’s oil and gas terminals in the UK.

I was a member of the Offshore Team where I worked for over three years as a Chemical Applications Engineer and traveled to many offshore locations supporting new and existing business. My job involved traveling to offshore and land-based oil installations on an ad-hoc basis where I managed, applied, and optimized Baker Petrolite’s chemicals. These were mainly demulsifiers and water clarifiers. I also provided laboratory technician cover when needed. I managed the deployment of several scale squeezes and part of my job involved setting up and operating air driven pumps and all related equipment for the purpose of carrying out field trials.

I gained a good knowledge of oilfield process production systems both onshore and offshore.


International Field Visits

I carried out several international assignments which involved traveling to Norway, Denmark and Holland. When I was not offshore, I was working on a continuous project to develop and formulate environmentally friendly demulsifiers. While working offshore in Denmark on the Maersk owned Tyra East and West platforms, I developed a new demulsifier called DMO86590 specifically for those two locations using live in-line mixing techniques of each component.

My job involved working closely with the customer directly and helping to solve any chemical related problems. I was awarded a financial reward by Marathon Oil UK for my work in improving the water quality of the overboard oil in water on the Brae Bravo by applying a dual water clarifier system to their produced water train.


Technical Service Chemist Grade 8/Acting Account Manager

While at Baker Petrolite I gained a total of 8 years industry experience in oilfield production chemistry which included regular trips offshore and laboratory-based work. While onshore I worked in the Technical Service laboratory in Aberdeen. My main duties involved chemical analysis using ICP and HPLC. I also carried out method development on these instruments. From time to time, I carried out a small amount of Corrosion work and chemical compatibility testing. My responsibilities included the operation and supervision of the Spectro Ciros ICP, carrying out 13 ion analysis on all of our customer’s squeeze returns, analysis of solids and occasional environmental water sample analysis. I was responsible for the day to day running and maintenance of the Spectro ICP machine and for making up the relevant dynamic correction standards. I was also involved in the training and supervision of other chemists who operated the ICP.

I gained a broad range of oilfield chemical analysis skills carrying out wet chemistry techniques and wax and asphaltene testing. I carried out emulsion and water clarifier work which was related to product selection and compatibility.
