MECHANICAL INTEGRITY INSPECTOR

Shell GTL Qatar
03.2016 - 02.2025
  • Conducted inspections in the Mechanical integrity department across multiple assignments.
  • As quality assurance personnel mainly focused on below objective as per requirement.
  • Managed quality assurance and coordinated inspection activities for piping, equipment, and relief valves, conducting thickness inspections and analyses to ensure compliance and integrity.
  • Monitoring and Surveillance of piping loops, equipment, valves for vibration, external or internal corrosion, hot spots, CUI etc. as per the inspection plan and requirements. Identifying bad actors with possible mitigation reducing down time.
  • Process digitization: As policy to digitize the work processes played important role in feeding work process and data management requirements to IT team. Relief valve end to end process to be digitized by reducing time required for manual data capturing. Gathered the data for installation of acoustic sensors on relief valves which will capture abnormal working conditions and help in reducing unplanned down time. Involved in AIR3D which is digitizing tool for in service inspection.
  • Quality assurance lead for Valve section: Working as QA lead for valve section especially during Shut down and turn arounds. Responsibility includes monitoring and surveillance of valves testing and inspection in Shell workshop as well as approved vendor shops. Ensuring work as per required procedures and code requirements. Mainly focusing on data collection for RBI and ensuring reliable operation of relief valves and other mechanical valves in the plant. Using the lesson learned from previous findings and implementing it in next cycle.
  • Guided team members in-house and at vendor shops, resolving technical challenges during overhauling and testing, and coordinated with area engineers for technical approvals and procedure reviews.
  • Conducted regular testing and inspection of relief valves, pressure vacuum vents, and emergency vent valves in Shell Central workshop. Documented findings, analyzed RV performance failures, and assisted area engineers with root cause analysis. Maintained monthly KPIs by updating reports in Web Integrity Management System (WIMS).
  • Repair of RV parts if needed which found damaged during service. Like weld repair, machining etc.
  • Acting the link between area engineer and site execution team.
  • As and when required connecting with area engineers for necessary approval for material change etc. and documenting the same.
  • Supporting the planning and warehouse material team while buying new Relief valve if required.
  • Oxygen cleanliness inspection: valve which are in pure oxygen service need special cleaning and inspection as per oxygen cleanliness requirement. As authorized inspector for the same. Perform the inspection of oxygen handling RV, NRV, Control valves as per requirements.
  • Manual valve testing in central workshop: Testing and inspection of manual valve as per API 598.
  • Trouble shooting of finding during as received test if required.
  • ASSIGNMENTS COMPLETED AT PEARL GTL:
  • Dissimilar metal weld inspection: Locate and plan the NDT testing of DMW (Dissimilar metal weld) in the plant which is assessed by corrosion engineer based on severity on basis of operating parameters. Suspected damage mechanism was galvanic corrosion. All the loops in the plant identified and NDT UT planned wherever possible during available slots. UT testing conducted and revealed no sign of corrosion.
  • Air separation unit Cold Box assignment: Cold box is special column separating oxygen from air. Due to operational upsets aluminum piping associated with valves got pinched and damaged at support location. Also due to vibration piping section got crack in weld and parent metal. As per the established procedure with consultation from Linde repair work performed. Cracked section replaced and valve upgraded with special orifice reducing noise. Oxygen cleanliness requirement makes task critical.
  • R&M schedule inspection: Worked in FGP area, UTL area, ASU area for supporting inspection during R&M as per requirement. Run and maintain inspection task consists of planned visual inspection of piping & equipment as per the inspection intervals calculated and defined in web integrity management system. Collecting the thickness data of process piping & equipment’s. Planning NDT. Uploading results in system to get next interval of inspection with guidance of Area Engineer.
  • SEC recovery project: Completed the SEC recovery project with Shell GTL. It was emergency shut down due to unpredictable leakage in Secondary effluent cooler associated with SGP reactor in Shell plant. It took 6 months to restore mechanical integrity for equipment. Total 36 SEC repaired. Inspection of SEC coil, flat front, Shell, Nozzle welds etc. was part of scope. Old coils were removed and replaced with like to like. Worked as night shift lead from mechanical integrity section. Escalating any emerging issues with integrity engineer and finding solutions. Supporting the execution team for smooth execution without quality compromise. Reviewing the documents from vendor.
  • Relief valve RBI update support: RBI is been updated by offsite team all the necessary data is to provide to team in the form of ECH (equipment credit history). Its continuous process. Based on input RBI is been updated and overhauling frequency is been optimized.
  • Procedure revision support: Actively involved in PRV inspection and testing procedure. Created many standalone instructions as per the specific requirements.
