I began my nursing career at Union Health in 2002-2009 in the general pediatric unit/NICU and returned in 2011-current in the pre-op/pacu unit at an outpatient surgery center and most recently in Pediatrics/NICU in May 2020. I worked at a very busy outpatient surgery center in the pre-op/pacu units. I was responsible for getting patients ready for surgery and also the recovery/discharging aspect. We would do different surgeries such as GI, ortho, eye, pediatric cases, etc. In the general pediatrics unit I am responsible for starting IVs, lumbar punctures, admission/discharges, assessments, etc for ages 2 days-18 years. We also float to a level 3 NICU and take the infants that are still working on feeding and growing to be discharged to home.
I began my nursing career after graduation at A4S at Methodist Hospital. This was a 40 bed surgical unit that included ENT/Urology/GYN including a 2 bed progressive unit. I worked on this unit from 2001-2006 and returned to Methodist in the general pediatric unit with rotation to the PICU and NICU from 2009-2014. I was responsible for assessments, IV starts and many procedures during this time of employment. I have always been certified in PALS, CPR, NRP and previously ACLS.
