Jiya Matharani

Dr. Jiya Matharani is an accomplished legal academicians with a Ph.D. In Biodiversity Laws from Saurashtra University, awarded in 2022. She holds a B.Com, LLB, and LLM from Gujarat University, specializing in International Law, Environmental Law, and Human Rights Law. With 9 years of experience, Dr. Matharani is actively involved in various academic and legal research activities. She currently serves as the Project Lead for the IUCN WCEL Mentorship Programme (2021-2025), and she is a lifetime member of both the IUCN and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Advanced Legal Research and a peer reviewer for the Environmental Law and Practice Journal of NALSAR University of Law. Her expertise spans multiple IUCN networks, including the Academy of Environmental Law, WCEL Biodiversity Law Network, WCEL Ethics Network, and others. Dr. Matharani has published extensively, including a book titled Access and Benefit Sharing of Biological Resources of India, available in seven languages. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and has earned accolades, such as the Vedant Educator Excellence Award in 2020. Additionally, she is engaged with numerous NGOs and regularly conducts seminars and webinars, sharing her insights on critical legal and environmental issues. Recognized for her work as the Coordinator of the Legal Aid Clinic at Sabarmati Central Jail, Dr. Matharani continues to contribute significantly to academic, legal, and humanitarian fields.
