Change Management:

  • Building a data driven process to take better decisions on product development
  • Created a team of 5 from various departments and collaborating to architect a solution.

Supervising Teams:

  • Supervise half of all engineering teams at the company directly. Closely work with other team leaders for roadmap execution and product deliveries.
  • Manage 3 teams with a total of 15 members of which 1 team comprises of fully international members with English as official language. The other 2 teams are in Japanese.
  • 95% of my team members have grown highly in their careers and skills. Created team leaders and managers who can take over existing teams.
  • Switch between management styles elastically for each team based on the current status of the team which could be either of Survival, Learning ot Self-Organizing mode.
  • Evaluate and train members based on their potential, interests and career goals.
  • Decide and follow up on team level OKRs and product level KPIs.

Organizational Planning:

  • Come up with initiatives for development organizational improvements while working as a team with 2 other Senior Managers.
  • Introduced technical planning as a part of sprint ceremonies which reduced the error in estimates by 80% which used to be a huge problem in roadmap deliveries.
  • Converted1 team from Learning mode to Self-Organizing mode and 1 more team from Survival mode to Learning mode within 6 months.
  • Participated in recruitment activities in collaboration with dev-HR. Part of successfully hiring 4 Tech/Team leader level candidates within first 4 months of joining hiring team.

New Product Development:

  • Ideate and prototype new product lineups with small team sizes (less than 6) using extreme programming. Later, lead them till MVP phase with larger team sizes (8+) in Scrum.
  • Communicate and collaborate with managers of other teams like Product / Project managers, QA, Sales, Customer success and higher management (stake holders).
  • Communicate and collaborate with external partner companies and outsourced engineering team.
  • Contribute to business model discussions, formulate infrastructure and engineering cost to include in unit economics survey.
  • One such product I built has evolved to become 「常連コボット for LINE」(Jouren Kobot for LINE)

Scale and Growth:

  • Prepare existing products for growth phase by enhancing cloud infrastructure.
  • Create backup systems, auto scaling, data recovery strategies, manage reliability and documentation.
  • Distribute above work efficiently among team members in consideration with their skills and interest.

Technology advisory:

  • Provide on-demand technical advice and support to company-wide teams. Setup a help desk on slack and assign members on floating basis to help solve issues.
  • Evaluate project technical roadmaps. Suggest changes to design documents pointing out security vulnerabilities, necessary enhancements, scope for data gathering and reliability.

  • Guide the engineering team and CEO in re-branding and re-building their web-based RaaS (Retail as a Service) platform.

  • Decide on company level goals and articulate them in OKRs to engineering, marketing and operations teams.
  • Take all important decisions on technology, development and project roadmaps to support business goals.
  • Hire and manage the engineering team. Articulate KPIs and evaluate progress of team members based on OKRs.
  • Guide the marketing team in tooling, gathering and understanding data and to measure the progress of their campaigns.
  • Project management using scrum while communicating with other teams and external stakeholders (VCs). Conduct sprint planning, reviews, brainstorming sessions and retrospectives.

Projects:

  • Project owner of Tabiko mobile app, a chat based concierge service for travelers in Japan which gained 5 star reviews from more than 95% users on Google Play and App Stores. Featured 3 times by Apple on App store.
  • Project owner of Tabiko Concierge system which acts as a client layer for concierges to communicate to app users. Integrations with Stripe payments, Jalan hotel APIs, Amadeus GDS for flight search and booking.
  • Manage infrastructure for content marketing site fastjapan.com which is a major source for organic user acquisition to our core application Tabiko. It had more than 150K unique visitors per month

Product Management:

  • Collect and investigate data points from usage data and perform analysis. Conclude product improvements and constantly track KPIs for each update.
  • By consistent data-driven product improvement, we improved the conversion of sending rewards from 2% to 13%. Rewards was one of our attempt in creating a monetization model for Tabiko app.

Full Stack Engineer:

  • Build server-side APIs using Express NodeJS. Build client-side applications using AngularJS, VueJS involving several 3rd party APIs.
  • Designing database schema, setting up and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS.
  • Perform and automate maintenance tasks involving AWS resources. Perform Cost analysis and optimization. Create necessary documentation.
  • Managing our content marketing site deployed on wordpress. Create and monitor firewall for security, automating backups, scaling, making upgrades on editors request and performing regular maintenance.
  • Developed strong partnerships with other businesses to allow for collaboration and more significant opportunities for growth.

R&D, Sales Engineer

Engineering:

  • Build and deploy software robots for clients. Maintain and schedule the invocation and create reports of robot performance.
  • I deployed more than 10 production bots and created 5 PoCs as per client request. These bots are known to bring down cost equivalent to 6 employees doing the same job but at the cost of 1 employee salary per month.

Pre-sales and consulting:

  • Create PoCs for ongoing sales, Support sales team in help understand customer about Automation technologies and its return in Investment.
  • Typical sales conversion for RPA projects was more than 20%. More than 50% of potential clients were interested in performing a PoC.
  • Perform LIVE hands-on training sessions in Japanese to clients in performing RPA themselves.

R&D:

  • Create a new product lineup called 'Scan Robo' in direct collaboration with COO. Scan Robo automates manual input tasks by 95% from hard paper using OCR and Machine Learning technologies.
  • Typical Scan Robo project cost was at least 10 Million JPY. Clients I worked with included big banks, non-banking financial corporations and real estate agencies.

  • Create and design prototypes for potential clients and pitch for projects along with senior managers.
  • Design, create and add real world textures to 3D objects for using in simulation system. Built with Unity3D using javascript and modelling on Blender.

Projects:

  • Build simulation system for traffic lane detection algorithms using gaming technology.
  • The project was aimed at reducing the cost in testing lane tracking by 90%.
  • It was aimed at performing rigorous stress testing for 24hours. Such a test is impractical and costly to perform on a real world vehicle.
  • This project fetched a big client from the German automobile industry.
