Accomplishments
  • 🏅 Awarded Young Scientist Trophy at the International Conference on Zoonotic Spillovers (IAV Kerala 2025) for research on human–langur interaction in tribal forest zones.
  • 🎤 First known oral research presenter from Jharkhand at the International Congress on Zoology and Technology (ICZAT 2025), for GIS-based biodiversity zonation work.
  • 📄 Published 6+ research works on Zenodo with DOIs, covering field ecology, traditional knowledge, and monsoon-based species behavior — all linked to ORCID and Google Scholar.
  • 🌾 Documented and analyzed traditional tribal eco-rituals, like the Buna Buni festival, wild food systems, and sacred Sal tree worship — submitted to Delhi Greens for publication.
  • 🐝 Conducted and published a field study on pollinator diversity across cultivated vs wild floral zones, contributing to conservation discussions in Eastern India.
  • 🌍 Participated in global conferences and training including ICRISAT–RIS Conference (2025), WEkEO Workshop on Climate Data (2025), and Copernicus MarineData4Asia.
  • 🤝 Developed a grassroots conservation project titled “Wild Food Forests”, now under consideration for Rufford Small Grants and The Pollination Project support.
  • 🐸 Successfully documented monsoon toad mating behavior and vocalization — published with photographic evidence and recognized in herpetological circles.

Summary

I am Kulesh Bhandari, a biodiversity researcher and postgraduate student of Zoology from the tribal uplands of Jharkhand, India. Rooted in field ecology, my work explores species behavior, native flora-fauna relationships, and traditional environmental knowledge across forest and village landscapes. I have presented original research at national and international platforms, earning the Young Scientist Award for my contributions to zoonotic ecology and grassroots conservation. Bridging science with community insight, I aim to document and protect the fragile ecologies of underrepresented regions.

Job overview

Biodiversity Researcher & Field Ecologist
Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka, Jharkhand
January 2024 – Present

Conducted field-based biodiversity research in tribal uplands of Jharkhand, focusing on species behavior, ecological gradients, and forest–village interactions.

Led ecological documentation of native pollinators, langurs, moss, amphibians, and termite mounds using structured observation and visual ethograms.

Presented original research at international conferences including ICZAT 2025 (oral presenter) and IAV Kerala 2025 (Young Scientist Award recipient).

Published research papers and field notes on Zenodo with DOIs; indexed on Google Scholar and ORCID.

Applied tools such as QGIS, iNaturalist, Google Earth Pro, and ecological photography for mapping species diversity across altitudinal zones.

Bridged academic zoology with indigenous ecological knowledge through community-engaged fieldwork and ethnobiological insights.

Currently developing a community-led conservation project on wild food forests in collaboration with grassroots support organizations.
