  Legal dos and don'ts for handling suspects.

• Greet all customers on entry — this shows alertness.
• Limit number of items in the changing room (e.g., 3–5 items max).
• Bags or backpacks may be politely asked to be left at the counter.

• Use barcode or RFID systems to track every item.
• Apply hard tags or ink tags on all high-value clothing.
• Lock high-risk items (e.g., branded jeans, jackets) in a display case or behind the counter.

• Staff-only areas must be clearly marked and locked.
• Lock fitting rooms when not in use.
• Only authorized employees should handle refunds and returns.

• Install door sensors that alert when items pass out unpaid.
• Have a panic button under the counter.
• Emergency numbers should be posted visibly for quick use.
• If theft occurs: do not chase — call police, record description, and check CCTV.
