Project1: PW4000 Engine Anti Vortex Tube Slot Wear Issue Engineering Change

  • Anti-Vortex Tubes (AVT) rub against the R10 shelf slot, wearing the slot past repairable limits
    . Customer is burdened by replacing entire drum, in most cases.
  • Supported Aero Thermal and Structural teams to investigate the impact of removing couple of AVT tubes

Project2: GTFA Engine Flight Safety Parts Review

  • Working on Inlet Guide Vane & LPC Vane arms for flight safety review process.
  • Reviewed the FMECAs and understand if the parts are correctly categorized.
  • Initiate discussions with partners (JAEC, GKN), RMS and CIPT and concur on right category in case of discrepancy.
  • Reviewed documents like SAM, DSM's, DFMEA and have discussions with stakeholders.
  • Reviewed the feature functions, existing manufacturing process, stress & lifing assessments conducted, inspections, assembly/disassembly, packaging & transportation and identify FSC and controls.

Project-1: Design of Pressure Barrier and Quench Ring for Combustion Test Rig

  • This task involves redesign of combined pressure barrier and quench ring to control deformation and leakages.
  • The key challenge of task is to integrate existing interfaces in new design. In addition, the design and the
    manufacturing of the new flanges needs to fulfill the pressure vessel requirements according EN13445 for TUV
    certification.
  • Performed heat transfer calculations to design cooling circuit for better performance of the component.
  • Interactions with CFD team for improvement of design and model iterations based on CFD output.
  • Involved in complete PDP from concept stage till finalization and delivered package which included complex design models and production drawings.

Project-2: Product definition of Dual cavity ring style resonator of combustion system

  • This task involves redesign of dual cavity ring style resonator for medium length transition system of combustion chamber.
  • Performed basic thermos acoustic calculations for design iterations.
  • Task involved: 3D Part Modelling, Assembly Design, 2D-Drawings and PMI using NX 2000 CPD Teamcenter.
  • Coordination with German and US counterparts related to Manufacturing, MI (CAE), CFD regarding the development
    of the Project.

Project-5: MDS Aero Exhaust Collector Design

  • Designed, Manufactured & Delivered Exhaust collector for gas turbine engine compressor test rig by meeting
    challenging requirements in all aspects.
  • Detailed hand calculations & material selection are done as per ASME SEC VIII Div 1 & Div 2 including nonlinear
    (elastoplastic) analysis to get “ASME U - Stamp” approval.
  • Performed Hydrotest on the designed component as part of quality check and inspection.
  • Designed nonstandard flanges with a “C” seal to match with compressor flanges & performed transient thermal and LCF analysis to predict the system performance.
  • Achieved adjustment of the entire assembly in three directions by designing push blocks, jacking bolts, and shims.
  • Meeting the project schedule in the production phase is the challenging aspect. Supported manufacturing and logistics teams to streamline the process, meet the customer schedule, and achieve critical dimensions to avoid interface issues.
  • Modeled the concepts by using NX Unigraphics 11 and created Production drawings (with the application of GD&T), General arrangement drawing, Component Interface Control Document, Maintenance & Troubleshooting manual for customer reference.

Project-6: High-Pressure Compressor, Low-Pressure Compressor rotor and stators, Fan cases, and Structural Guide Vane eQN’s (Engineering Quality Non Confirmations)

  • Performed dimensional and visual eQN’s on HPC & LPC rotors and stators, fan cases, bleed ducts and
    intermediate cases of various Pratt & Whitney Engines. (PW 4000 series 90”, 94” and 112”, FT4000 engines)
  • Studied the non-conformances that occurred on the manufacturing shop floor, carried out the study to evaluate the effect of non-conformance to provide a feasible solution.
  • The objective of the task is to review the quality Non – Confirmations acceptance and provide the relevant
    substantiation with the help of structural analysis review and carrying out tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure the right gap/interference at assembly.
  • Airfoil defects are analyzed by using GOM software to check deviations from nominal.
