Chief Transplant Coordinator with a broad mandate responsibility for planning, promoting, coordinating and supporting the organ and tissue donation and transplantation system, managing the organ transplant waiting list, allocation, educating and increasing awareness of the public and health professionals on donation, and reporting statistics on organ and tissue donation to the Health and Family Welfare Department/ROTTO/NOTTO.

• Provide leadership in the delivery of safe and effective organ/tissue donation across Karnataka State
• Develop and manage Jeevasarthakathe’s budget plan
• Develop yearly plan for the optimization of transplant program in the State of Karnataka in consultation with the Convener of SOTTO & Joint Director (Medical)
• Using State policies, procedures and guidelines provide direction to hospital leads in the donation and transplantation process
• Provide expert knowledge pertaining to donation, referral, consent, brain death declaration, and donor management, organ allocation
• Manage overall operations and is responsible for the effective and successful management of SOTTO team, productivity and quality of services

• Organize organ specific advisory committee meeting
• Participates in the development and implementation of protocol and standards of care for the organ donation & transplant program for the State
• Monitors the process and outcomes of newly implemented protocols and determine quality improvement

• Develop yearly plan for the optimization of hospital performance and establishing transplant programs
• Business plan for the occupational health centers to refer end stage organ failure patinets
• Establishment of transplant programs for the Kauvery units
• Apply for the Non transplant retrieval license for the Electronic City branch
• Manage overall operations and is responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, productivity, quality control and safety measures
• Quality improvement projects and policies to improve the revenue, optimize the cost and improve patient satisfaction

• Develop yearly plan for the optimization of all transplant program (heart, lung, liver, kidney) in consultation with the COO, Facility Directors & Hospital Transplant Program Directors
• Coordinate with print and electronic media, traffic department, state agencies, blood lab, and different stake holders at the time of organ availability
• Provide expert knowledge pertaining to donation, referral, consent, death declaration, and donor management
• Using State policies, procedures and guidelines provide direction to hospital leads in the donation and transplantation process, Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation (ZCCK)
• To liaise with doctor's team and communicate any concerns raised by the patients

• ZCCK is a committee under the Department of Health and Family Welfare services, State Govt of Karnataka in which I worked as the Senior Program Coordinator with a broad mandate including responsibility for planning, promoting, coordinating and supporting the organ and tissue donation and transplantation system, managing the organ transplant waiting list, allocation, recovery, distribution and delivery of organs for transplantation, educating and increasing awareness of the public and health professionals on donation, and reporting statistics on organ and tissue donation to the Health and Family Welfare Department

• Provide leadership in the delivery of safe and effective organ/tissue donation across Karnataka State
• Develop and manage ZCCK’s budget plan
• Coordinates transplantation process when a donor is available (24 hours/7 days a week) including communication between physicians, local organ procurement Hospital, patient families/ relatives and the medical team involved including ICU’s, OT, and histocompatibility labs
• Manage the legal formalities from the police station if it is MLC case
• Arrange Panel Listed Doctors for Brain Death certification
• Organize Executive Committee meeting
• Maintain the Waiting List of organ recipient for the State of Karnataka

• Allocate the organs according to the priority list after the preliminary assessment with the treating doctor
• Schedules recipient and donor laboratory tests to determine histocompatibility of blood or tissue of recipient and donor
• Calendar the retrieval time highlighting the prerequisite of the family to get the body back
• Follow grieving process, effective bereavement support strategies and the unique needs of donor family members
• Maintains confidentiality of information relating to the patient and family
• Serves as a resource person in organ and tissue donation to raise awareness on donation and to provide on-going education to the community

• The profile offered a live-in care for an elderly lady recovering from a stroke and a brain injury
• The job responsibility included assisting her in walking and balance (she uses walker, wheelchair), helping in meal preparation and cooking, cleaning, keeping condo tidy, reminder for medication, assistance in personal grooming and accompanying her to medical appointments and therapy.

• Transplant coordinator is an integral member of a larger interdisciplinary team contributing to excellence in patient care, research, counselling, and in providing excellent service to the organization
• This significant role specifically coordinated the activities included in the brain death certification, donor consent, and retrieval of organs, transplant and follow up of the patients
• Coordinates transplantation process when a donor is available (24 hours/7 days a week) including communication between physicians, local organ procurement organization, patient/families and the medical team involved, blood bank and histocompatibility labs
• Completes necessary documentation including listing status changes and post- transplant follow-up information
• Communicates with multidisciplinary team members and patients and families in a timely manner in regard to patient care/issues
• Educates nurses and other multidisciplinary team members about patient care issues to promote positive outcomes for transplant patients
• Provides education and consultation about transplantation, and organ donations for the public organizations or referral centers
• Serves as a resource person/preceptor in organ transplant for graduate and undergraduate nursing programs
• Participates and leads team conferences, rounds, or meetings in relation to care of the transplant patient or program issues

• Participates in organ transplant program planning and management within the health system.
