Provisioning and Configuring Cloud Resources: I was responsible for provisioning and managing virtual machines (VMs), storage, networking, and databases on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. This involved creating and configuring cloud instances, setting up networking (VPCs, subnets, security groups), and allocating storage resources to support various workloads.
Automation of Infrastructure: To streamline operations, I developed automation scripts using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to manage cloud resources as code. This helped maintain consistent infrastructure, reduce human error, and speed up deployments.
Cloud Monitoring: I implemented monitoring solutions such as AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or third-party tools like Datadog to keep track of the health and performance of cloud-based applications and infrastructure. I set up custom alerts to detect potential issues like resource overutilization, application errors, or network latency.
Troubleshooting: When issues arose, I quickly diagnosed performance bottlenecks or service disruptions. This often involved analyzing logs, identifying failure points, and working with other teams to resolve root causes.
Resource Optimization: I regularly performed cost optimization and resource optimization activities, such as rightsizing instances, utilizing auto-scaling groups, or setting up reserved instances to reduce costs without sacrificing performance.
Identity and Access Management (IAM): Ensuring proper access control to cloud resources was a critical responsibility. I worked with IAM to define roles and policies, ensuring that users and services had the right level of access to cloud resources while maintaining the principle of least privilege.
Security Best Practices: I implemented security controls such as encryption (both at rest and in transit), network security policies (firewalls, security groups), and vulnerability management practices. Additionally, I kept the infrastructure compliant with industry standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001) and internal security requirements.
CI/CD Pipelines: I integrated cloud services with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline to automate the deployment process. This ensured that code changes were continuously tested and deployed to production in a consistent and reliable manner.
Incident Management: When outages or performance issues occurred, I was part of the incident response team, performing quick triage, root-cause analysis, and implementing mitigation steps. This often involved collaborating with other engineers to ensure a fast recovery.
Backup and Disaster Recovery: I ensured that cloud resources had proper backup and disaster recovery plans in place. This included setting up automated backups for databases and creating runbooks for restoring services in case of a failure.
As a Cloud Operations Engineer, I worked closely with DevOps, Development, and System Admin teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud infrastructure with application requirements. I participated in architecture reviews, providing input on how best to leverage cloud services for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Capacity Planning: I analyzed the application's traffic patterns and growth trends to anticipate future infrastructure needs, ensuring that the cloud environment could scale to meet demand without over-provisioning resources.
I created and maintained detailed documentation for cloud infrastructure setups, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks. This helped in knowledge sharing across the team and ensured smooth onboarding of new team members.
Reporting: I often generated reports on cloud performance metrics, cost analysis, and incident responses, which were shared with stakeholders to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
