Projects

Modeling and analyzing different control strategies for Adaptive Cruise Control systems

  • Conducted extensive literature review on adaptive cruise control systems including sensors, and control strategies.
  • Modeled the different components of the system; the radar sensor, switching controller, main controller, and brake and throttle actuators. Used CarSIM and Simulink for car model and simulation.
  • Analyzed individual stability, homogeneous and heterogeneous string stability for different control strategies

Brake based Electronic Stability Control with yaw rate feedback

  • Used a yaw rate feedback PD controller to actuate individual brakes in order to stabilize the vehicle. Used the bicycle model to compute drivers desired response.
  • Conducted a Simulink-CarSim co-simulation to view and analyze the results

Dune Buggy Road Load data acquisition and fatigue analysis

  • Instrumented the dune buggy and acquired the required data for analysis first from the four post shaker and then by driving it on/off road.
  • Analyzed and reported the reactions of the buggy during a particular driving event.
  • Conducted fatigue analysis on the suspension and body of the buggy using nCode.
  • Determined fatigue life and compared four post shaker results to the real road results.

Active electromagnetic damping system using Magneto-Rheological Fluid

  • Designed and built a working prototype of an active damper system using Magnet-Rheological (MR) fluid to damp the vibrations (5Hz – 100Hz) in machines.
  • Calibrated a nano-cantilever piezoelectric sensor to sense vibrations and control, through a micro-controller, the current flowing into the electromagnet

Modeling and Analysis of systems

  • Developed quarter car, pitch and heave, and directional stability models to analyze ride and handling performance of vehicles
