Measuring and managing supply chain resilience in the context of climate change and natural disaster (Dissertation of M.Sc. in supply chain management
Date of submission: 18th January 2024, at the Anglia Ruskin University
In my dissertation, I have aimed at evaluating and improving the resistance of the supply chain to natural catastrophes and climate change by producing sustainable and adaptive methods in the context of environmental issues that affect operational continuity. I have also developed the comprehensive objectives of the research as follows:
Therefore, by investigating the objectives through the chapters of literature review, results, and discussion, I have been able to enhance my comprehension regarding the supply chain management issues in the global context due to environmental hazards, along with identifying the practical measures to improve the supply chain resiliency among the worldwide supply chains.
The research findings of the qualitative secondary research have unveiled that Climate change and related environmental hazards significantly hinder the operation of the global supply chain, which requires appropriate mitigation methods. The study has also found that due to the increase in climate-related descriptions over the last 20 years, there has been a significant increase of close to 3% in supply chain expenses. Also, the research noted that supply chain resilience can be improved by integrating the mechanisms of Bridging strategies, which aim to enable suppliers to deal with risk and quickly recover in case they are disrupted. Also, the buffering strategies, which are significant for the buyer organization to protect from any repercussions caused by the failure of suppliers, is another considerable strategy to build resilience against environmental issues in the Global supply chain.
