My role in the A&E was to be the first responder and handle all Acute Emergencies in one of the only three Tertiary Care Hospitals in the Province. I would be posted in the Emergency Reception, Triage, and Observation Wards as per rota and I would mostly be dealing with cases like Stroke, Pulmonary embolism, Myocardial infarction, Acute COPD exacerbations, etc.
During these seven months of my Junior Residency, I did procedures like Lumbar Punctures (Under Supervision), Catheterisations, ABGs,
Venipunctures, Gastric Lavages etc.
My Responsibilities:
1) To Understand the nature of the problem presented by the patient and make appropriate decisions.
2) Communicate effectively with the patients, their relatives, and other staff at my workplace.

4)I would liaise with the whole team in devising a holistic management plan for my patients.
5)I used to do handovers after my night shifts, do all the e-purples, and liaise with Consultants from other specialties to devise holistic treatment plans for my patients.
After my MBBS, I completed my One Year Mandatory Internship Rotations (equivalent to FY1) in January 2022 from Government Medical College Srinagar (SMHS and Associated Hospitals) Kashmir India.
I was mentored and groomed by the finest doctors of Jammu and Kashmir.
I rotated in all the departments of the hospital like Medicine, Surgery,
Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Social and Preventive Medicine, Orthopaedics etc.
My work mainly included:
1) Receiving patients in the emergency as well as the out-patient setting,
2) Clerking the patients.
3) Carrying out a relevant physical examination and ordering appropriate investigations.
4) Being a team player and liaising with registrars and consultants in devising holistic management plans for the patients.
5) Monitoring the patients in wards, maintaining patient records and ensuring adequate
treatment as per the treatment plans.
6) Carrying out bedside teaching activities for Medical students especially teaching procedures like insertion of NG tubes and urinary catheterisations.
7) Preparing presentations and taking part in case discussions.
