- The present study concentrates on the Metro rail tunnel construction, which is in progress in the Chennai Region to facilitate metro rail infrastructure
- This study especially comprises Phase 2, Corridor 3 project of Metro tunnel construction from Kelly's Station to Taramani Road Junction with 12 Km distance in between
- The study area is the Adyar Junction Metro site, located between 13.0012 N and 80.2565 E coordinates
- The study area is located adjacent to the Adyar River
- The Subsurface Investigations by drilling a borehole revealed that the alluvial soils such as Silty Sand and Clayey Sand are present up to a depth of 18.5 m
- The Charnockite rock of grade V, is present up to a depth of 33 m
- After the weathered rock mass, Charnockite of grade II is present beneath and extends beyond 35 m (Total Borehole Depth is 35 m)
- After the analysis like RQD, RMR, and other engineering geological studies it is found that Rock Mass up to the depth of 14 - 20 m is found to be suitable, however, it is decided to construct a tube tunnel by arresting the unsafe overburden
- Hence the present study brings out the importance of the geological characteristics of subsurface rock mass.

- The Nature Of The Work Done During The Internship Is To Understand The Basic Concepts Of Engineering Geology.
- I also learned about Important Laboratory Tests for Soil and Rock Samples and the importance of the Tunnel Boring Machine In Tunnel Construction.
- After Learning all this we have done Geological Mapping, Basic Foundation Mapping, and Tunnel Face Mapping Using Different Map Scales.
