Project I: Preparation and characterization of novel abuse-deterrent formulations to prevent opioid abuse
• The design of experiments (DOE) approach was utilized to design different compositions of the drug, polymer, and other processing aids.
• Developed and validated analytical method for the quantification of API. Currently performing drug extraction studies of abuse-deterrent formulations using different compositions obtained from the DOE approach.
Project II: Solubility enhancement of BCS class IV drug Acyclovir through the combined ball mill and hot melt extrusion approach
• Ball milling was performed to break drug crystal lattices, and hot melt extrusion with hydrophilic polymers (Kollicoat® IR and Kollicoat® Protect) was performed to maintain the physical stability of the amorphous form and enhance drug solubility.
• Developed and validated a HPLC method for the analytical quantification of Acyclovir. Currently conducting characterization studies (DSC, TGA, FTIR, XRD, in vitro Dissolution Studies, Solubility Studies, SEM, NMR, and Thermomicroscopy).
