    Mr. Pradeep Mittal superannuated from Essar Group after a fruitful stint of 12 years. Whilst in Essar, he held many leadership roles such as Executive Vice Chairman of Essar Power Limited as the MD & CEO of Essar Mining and MD of Mahan Power Ltd., a JV with Aditya Birla Group, and Director in Essar Services Ltd, the holding company of Essar Group.


  • oversaw a power portfolio of 5000 MW with a team of 5000 people
  • Profitably restarting the 1200 MW Salaya power plant as well as the 1200 MW Mahan power plant & giving a profit of INR _________________________________ per annum

    Before joining Essar, Mr. Mittal was the MD of Adani Enterprises and CEO of Adani's Energy and Minerals verticals, where he worked for a

    period of 11 years. He joined Adani in 1997 as head of coal trading division

    and within 6 years made Adani the largest coal trading company in India.

    He was instrumental in starting power and iron ore trading as well as

    setting up of power generation and coal mining businesses of Adani. His

    long list of achievements at Adani include:


  • Making Adani the largest coal trading company in India and the 5th largest in the world.
  • Becoming the 2nd largest power trading company in India after PTC.
  • Becoming the largest iron ore exporter from India.
  • Responsible for signing of the commercial contract between Indian railway ministry and Mundra Port for a PPP project of laying 62kms of broad gauge line from Mundra Port. This was a first of its kind in the country and led to Western Railways operating 25 rakes daily from Mundra port.
  • Responsible for generation of electricity from 4 units of 330 MW each at Mundra.
  • Starting Adani's MDO (mine development and operations) business, the first of its kind in the country at that time. He signed the first MDO contract with Rajasthan state and subsequently formed a JV with the Maharashtra government too.
  • Setting up of Adani Power's thermal power plants in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
  • Acquiring coal mines in Indonesia for Adani's thermal power plants.

    Mr. Pradeep Mittal started his career with Karamchand Thapar Group as Management Trainee in 1977. During his stint at KCT, he worked across various divisions including sugar, paper and finally coal. In 1990,

    he was posted in Mumbai and General Manager, heading KCT's coal distribution and handling business to various state electricity boards. Within a short span of 3 years' time, he took coal handling business from 15 million ton to 65 million ton, which was highest in the country. He supplied coal to all the major state electricity boards in the country such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, MP, among others. It was due to his ability to supply coal in the most time efficient manner that led to the various state power plants increasing their output manifold.
