Project: Database Job Automation for Switchover/Switchback

Description:

Developed a shell script to automate the enabling and disabling of database jobs during switchover and switchback operations for a critical database system. This script streamlined the process, ensured consistency, and minimized the risk of errors during these critical maintenance procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzed the existing database job management process for switchover/switchback operations.
  • Designed and implemented a shell script that automates job enabling/disabling based on the operation type (switchover or switchback).
  • Incorporated error handling and logging mechanisms to ensure script robustness and facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Tested the script thoroughly in a non-production environment to validate its functionality.
  • Documented the script's usage, assumptions, and limitations for future reference.

Benefits:

  • Reduced Manual Effort: Eliminated the need for manual job enabling/disabling, saving time and reducing the risk of human error.
  • Improved Consistency: Ensured that jobs were enabled/disabled in the correct order every time, regardless of the person performing the operation.
  • Enhanced Reliability: Error handling mechanisms prevented script failures and provided valuable information for troubleshooting if issues arose.
  • Increased Efficiency: Streamlined switchover/switchback operations, leading to faster maintenance cycles and reduced downtime.

Project Outcomes:

  • The script was successfully integrated into the existing switchover/switchback procedures.
  • Database administrators reported significant improvements in efficiency and reduced risk during maintenance operations.

Project: Automated Oracle Database FRA Monitoring in Exadata Environment

Description:

  • Developed a shell script to automate centralized monitoring of Oracle database FRA usage in an Exadata environment.
  • Script retrieves FRA size, used space, and total FRA storage capacity.
  • Script print data in a user's session for further analysis and visualization.
  • Skills: Oracle SQL, Shell Scripting, Database Administration

Project Outcomes:

  • Reduce manual effort of checking FRA usage by login each and every server manually which are reported on FRA usage report on a daily basis.
  • Reduce the effort of checking FRA report daily from 30 min to 10 min.

Project: Automating and Centralizing Oracle Standby Database Lag Monitoring with a Shell Script

Project Description:

Developed a comprehensive solution to automate and centralize the monitoring of Oracle standby database lag using a shell script. This script leverages the dgmgrl utility to retrieve critical data about the standby database's lag status. Key features include:

  • Automated Data Collection: The script eliminates manual intervention by scheduling regular execution manually. This ensures continuous monitoring and timely detection of potential lag issues.
  • Centralized Logging: Data retrieved from the standby database prints on a user's session, allowing for easy access, analysis.
  • MRP STATUS: The script also check the MRP status and block moving status 4 times in a span of 4 second in standby database in case of lag to ensure the running status of MRP.

Benefits:

  • Improved Efficiency: Streamlines the monitoring process, freeing up valuable time for DBAs to focus on more strategic tasks.
  • Enhanced Visibility: Provides a centralized view of standby database lag, facilitating better decision-making and proactive problem resolution.
  • Increased Accuracy: Eliminates human error associated with manual data collection, ensuring reliable lag monitoring.

Technical Skills :

  • Shell scripting
  • Oracle Data Guard Broker

Project: Automated Redo Log Shipping Management for Oracle Cascade Standby

Description:

  • Implemented an automated solution for managing redo log shipping in an Oracle Data Guard configuration with a cascading standby database.
  • Utilized shell script to configure auto enable and disable of redo data transfer from the standby database to the cascading standby.
  • Reduced administrative overhead associated with manual enable and disable of redo log shipping tasks.
  • Improved database performance by disable and enabling the redo shipping during critical business hour.

This project involved standby database creation, database upgrade, data transfer, plug in as a PDB in 19c CDB in a exadata environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Analysis: Performed a thorough analysis of the source 11g database, identifying dependencies, schema objects, and data volume.
  • Upgrade Strategy: Create 19c Non-CDB database in a standby role in addition to one 19c CDB database
  • Migration Methodology: Used standby database for a data transfer technology
  • Testing and Validation: Coordinated with Application team and conducted thorough testing to ensure data integrity and functionality of the migrated database in the Exadata system.
  • Documentation: Created detailed documentation outlining the entire migration process for future reference and knowledge transfer.

Outcomes:
