Nagothane Gas Cracker:

  • Working as lead process engineer to revamp cracker capacity by 45%. Total project cost more than 3.5B$.
  • Prepared Note detailing revamp and economic justification for higher management approval.
  • Prepared process design basis, scope of work document
  • Colloborating with other stackholders for smooth functioning and progress of the project.

Refinery off gas Cracker(ROGC):

  • Providing Technical support to one of the worlds largest off gas crackers. Capacity: 1.7MMTPA of ethylene.
  • Participated in recently concluded 1st turn around of the plant.
  • Working on digital initiatives like early event detection for HPDP flooding and amine absorber fouling/high del P issue with Aspen team using Aspen ProMV.
  • Started working on ROGC digital twin model.

Major Projects handled:

1. NMD Cracker Furnace Revamp

  • Worked as a lead process engineer for the revamp study of NMD furnaces with Technip.
  • Study was done to increase the capacity of the existing furnaces by around 10% and taking care of some of the reliability issues like bowing of radiant coils, convection section dissimilar weld joint failure, falling of radiant roof insulation modules etc.

2. Ethane Feed flexibility project at NMD Cracker

  • NMD gas cracker plant was operating with 60:40(Eathane:Propane) feed mixture which was revamped to handle 90:10(Ethane:Propane) feed mixture.
  • Ethane as a liquid was to be imported from US and stored at DMD in cryogenic tanks. This then pumped to NMD (approx. 450km) for cracker consumption.
  • Cold recovery scheme was developed with the help of licensor Ms. Technip. This cold recovery scheme enabled us to off-load the existing C3R machine and increase the plant capacity by around 10-12%.
  • As a lead cracker technologist (for NMD revamp) reviewed and commented process engineering documents like PFDs, PIDs, Heat & Material Balances, hydraulic calculations, Cause and Effect Diagram.
  • Participated in HAZOP and SIL studies, Vendor discussions, Model review, FAT etc. and ensured that all the action points ae incorporated in the final document
  • Finally worked in the plant shutdown (48 days) taken to implement the project modifications.
  • Plant has shifted to design capacity of the feed ethane and correspondingly has achieved the designed ethylene capacity.

3. Import of propylene from Aegis terminal at NMD Cracker

  • After implementation of EFFP (Ethane feed flexibility Project) at NMD, the site was propylene deficient and this was to be fulfilled by importing propylene from Aegis terminal via existing propane pipeline
  • Worked as Lead process engineer for the project and developed scheme for the modification required at the Cracker OSBL and ISBL area to handle the propylene.
  • Developed Process design basis document, preliminary PFDs with control scheme for the project.
  • Performed adequacy check for the condenser adequacy, PSV adequacy.

  • DSG demister pad adequacy check
  • CGC, C3R and C2R compressor and turbine efficiency calculation

Major Contributions in Plant optimization:

  • Increase in SVH generation by reducing QWT inlet temperature
  • Decoking/Cracking Procedure Comparison

Major Contributions in Troubleshooting's:

  • Caustic carryover issue
  • NMD low SVH temperature in propane cracking furnaces issue
  • Difference in EKMS and Aspen estimated turbine efficiency

Major Contributions in Incident investigations:

  • NMD 3 furnaces tripped back to back on low dilution steam flow
  • NMD E05 failure analysis
