Job Description

Research & Development, Plant Breeder-Tomato, Tomato breeder; Tomato crop team member Asia, Research Technician, Hosur, South India, Growers, Traders, Public Research Institutes, All Functional Heads, support scientists, WW Seminis Tomato Breeders, Asia Tomato Crop Team, Tomato STI BW, TY, TOSPO and HS team, MIDAS support team, Lead the tomato breeding activity with prioritizing efforts and optimizing the resources for the target markets West Asia(major effort) and SEA markets (10% effort) markets. Tomato Strategic traits Initiative (STI) projects: Member for BW, TOSPO and Heat set. Conduct of experiments and resut delivary for the Sti experiments. Formulate the syrategy and execute the plan to deliver the Phase-1’s as per the strategy. Lead the tomato breeding SG & A and CAPEX needs through planning, monitoring and tracking the expenses. PVP – Play a significant role towards Tomato variety and germplasm protection. Supporting role: ESH, Business conduct, training subordinates, cross function., Development of superior Tomato hybrids for West Asia, Philippines and Vietnam markets. Development of superior tomato hybrids for West Asia, Vietnam and Philippines markets. Planning and design of breeding and disease screening experiments. Planning and design of performance trial experiments at trial locations. Coordinating all the activity in this direction like germplasm collection, evaluation, maintenance, seed increase (Parentals and hybrids), trialing and coordination with TD dept. coordination with colleague breeders world wide, involvement in necessary product advancements and updating the market information. Coordinate the seed shipments for ABE trials and germplasm exchange within and across India. Coordination with Pathology and WW Seminis to develop disease resistant Tomato breeding material for Early Blight, TYLCV, Bacterial Wilt and Tospo virus. Coordination with the colleague breeders world wide to achieve the local targets faster. This yielded in the form of joint hybrids and provided broader germplasm base to work with. Maintenance, utilization and sharing of acquired germplasm: Eg: Sasya and Emergent Genetics. Coordination, Planning and Execution of MAS: Coordinate with Woodland marker group for marker analysis and marker updates, leaf sample collection, shipping, recording marker data and selection based on marker data. Trait introgression by Marker assisted back crossing of elite lines. Managing stock of tomato germplasm inventory & storage., Manage and Maintain breeding records (nursery and Performance trials) in MIDAS. Nursery: Import new records; make crossing block, advance inventory, input trait, assay and marker data into MIDAS. Performance trials: Set the first look, second look and ABE experiments in MIDAS, update the data and analyze to make advancement decisions. Manage the seed shipment records using MIDAS. Train the subordinates and coordinate further training in MIDAS., Participation in Tomato STI projects for trait and marker development. Active member of STI BW, ToSPO and HS team. Coordinate and conduct STI BW, TOSPO, HS and Ty experiments as per the team plan. Coordinate seed shipment for STI experiments. Sharing the results to the team., Management of activities at Hosur station for tomato breeding, guiding and supporting Seminis research activities. Organise tomato breeding experiments and trials at Hosur station. Manage the station for the research activities – Coordinate with concerned for ESH , man power, labour and security set up and conduct as per the standards of the company., Supporting role: ESH, Business conduct, training subordinates, cross function etc. Associate with sales, marketing, TD, QA, production, FS, SS and other depts. to deal with / address any matters/ issues related to Tomato business. Training, Work assignment and assessment of the subordinates in the tomato breeding program. Follow and implement ESH and business conduct policies. Proper reporting, maintain integrity and secrecy and conduct as per the guidelines of the company. Roles And Responsibilities

Direction and management of all components of a successful commercial Tomato breeding program. Including, but not limited to: creation and evaluation of breeding populations; utilization of molecular markers to incorporate genes for disease resistance and quality traits; coordinate, place and evaluate trials in major market segments; make line and hybrid advancement decisions; fulfill requirements for variety advancement through documentation of performance; completion of required breeder's seed. Utilization of all relevant breeding technologies with appropriate allocation of resources directed at the successful development of commercial products for Indian market segments. Through engagement and collaborative interaction with breeding technology communities across Monsanto, identify, research, and eventually apply those to the breeding program that enhance breeding program effectiveness and efficiency. Effective utilization of Monsanto technology tools and data management systems to establish consistent and productive breeding program. Achieve pre-commercial hybrid advancement targets and make recommendations to appropriate regional crop teams. Significant amount of interaction with technology development group that extends through sales and key customer groups. Travel to key global market segments required for trial and product evaluations. Ensure that the research team is trained and compliant with Monsanto Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) policies to ensure safe operations of the research program. Manage budget cost center and appropriate allocation of resources - both current and long range. Recruiting, training, and development of research support personnel.
