Projects

  • ROCKET CAR : As a design engineer on a five-person team, I participated in a university-wide competition to build a rocket-powered car. The goal was to construct a vehicle that could travel the farthest distance when propelled by a provided rocket. I utilized SolidWorks CAD software to design the car and conducted simulations to assess its performance under the expected thrust.
After finalizing the design phase, we moved into manufacturing. Depending on our budget, components were produced using a combination of methods — some parts were 3D printed, while others were turned, milled, laser-cut, or waterjet-cut to complete the final assembly. The design proved successful, and our team achieved a commendable third-place finish out of ten competing groups
  • Centrifugal clutch: Leveraging SolidWorks, I designed a centrifugal clutch for a 150 cc Honda engine using reference specifications The project involved calculating mass distribution, spring tension, and rotational speeds to determine the RPM threshold at which centrifugal force would overcome spring resistance and engage the clutch mechanism.
Once the design was complete, I performed simulations to evaluate stress distribution, dynamic balance, and force vectors to confirm whether the generated centrifugal force would reliably actuate the clutch shoe. Material selection and tolerancing were also considered to ensure mechanical reliability under heat and load. This project deepened my understanding of rotating systems, dynamic force behavior, and engagement mechanisms — principles directly relevant to engine systems I now troubleshoot at Cummins. My experience with mechanical simulation and design has enhanced my ability to visualize internal failures, understand component interactions (e.g., in braking or governor systems), and communicate mechanical issues clearly to field technicians.
  • Fuel Pressure Drop on Marine Engine – Diagnostic Case Study
Context: A customer operating twin old-generation mechanical Cummins engines on a marine vessel reported repeated engine shutdowns due to fuel pressure dropping from 4 bar to 2 bar. Despite replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump lever, the issue persisted on both engines, with one showing noticeably low fuel flow.

Diagnosis: Upon reviewing the case, I identified that the replacement fuel filter (NAPA 3558) differed from OEM specifications by 10 microns, possibly impacting filtration and flow rate. Additionally, I suspected a restriction or contamination in the fuel supply lines or tank.

Resolution: I recommended running the engine from an alternate fuel source (e.g., a clean gas can) with a factory-grade fuel filter. This isolated the system from potential contamination or restriction within the original tank and lines.

Outcome: The suggested method helped the dealer confirm the issue stemmed from the fuel lines or linkage, not the engine components. The case highlighted the importance of using factory-specified components and confirmed the effectiveness of fuel source isolation for troubleshooting.

Relevance: This scenario enhanced my practical diagnostic skills in pressure-based systems and reinforced the value of methodical root cause isolation—skills I now apply daily in my technical support role at Cummins

  • AI-Based Fruit Classification – NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI)
Participated in an NVIDIA Deep Learning workshop and earned certification upon successful completion of a hands-on Python-based project. Developed an AI model capable of classifying fruits as fresh or rotten using image recognition techniques. The project involved training a convolutional neural network (CNN) on labeled datasets, optimizing model accuracy, and validating predictions through real-world image testing.
