  • Capital One Financial Corporation is a publicly held bank holding company based in McLean, Virginia. Its principal subsidiaries, Capital One Bank and Capital One F.S.B., offer consumer lending Products and are among the largest providers of MasterCard and Visa credit cards in the world.
  • Description: USCARD Level 3 project provides technical support to all production jobs running on USCARD platform of CapitalOne. USCARD L3 supports more than 300 applications which vary from customer acquisition, processing transaction, statement generation, collections etc. Overall L3 team takes care of all credit card business in US and Canada region.
  • Level-3 team gets incidents from incident production support team with severity and L3 team is responsible for providing resolution within SLA time. Along with incident resolution ,Level 3 team is also responsible to figure out and fix data issues .Also L3 team provides recommendation to reduce repeated issues . Overall L3 team makes sure of healthy production environment.

  • Data merger of Wachovia and Wells Fargo bank and retiring old systems.
  • Development in data hub to handle cleansing related requests, for proper handling and cleansing of data.
  • Worked in modules like CDW, SIGMA, AML. This consists of all to all flow like Extracts, Transform and Load.
  • Work flow of CDW module
  • Corporate data warehouse is the complete application in which cleansed data comes from upstream (HUB). CDW accepts this data as multfiles. Applies different mapping transformations provided by business. Looked for the surrogate key in the existing lookups. If any found then assigns it to the out record. If not then new surrogate key is generated in the ETL graphs. After all the transformations data is loaded into the different silo tables and common tables.
  • Various extract files also sent to the downstream (data marts). NDM is used for it.
  • To load application specific tables CDC( change data capture) have been used

  • Integrating the data from different source to create integration layer.
  • Data merger and migration of Wachovia and Wells Fargo bank.
  • REQUISITS DESCRIPTION
  • 1. Data merger and migration of two U.S banking giants.
  • The Client wells Fargo as mentioned overtook Wachovia U.S bank.
  • The request was to convert another bank's business data into client's business data format.
  • For this the approach was to create a data bridge first and then totally decommissioning another bank's application. Data bridge was the application created entirely for another bank. Request was to merge the data from different types of sources of both banks to move into one common database i.e. Teradata.
  • Tasks handled:
  • Analysis of existing source details.
  • The existing data from some sources were in XML that required the data interpretation knowledge for the same.
  • Within database sources, some database sources were different i.e. Sybase and oracle, so needed to take care for compatibility.
  • Design of Technical Requirement Document
  • The document contained the details of technology required for this request.
  • The actual code.
  • The different graphs and different code was needed to handle each type of difference sources in such a way that data after transformation would be compatible for new target database.
  • The actual code implementation
  • In order to implement new code, several software's were used.
  • Code check in and tagging: Ab-initio, UNIX
  • Code packaging: Harvest
  • Code Scheduling on production server: Autosys
  • Implemented code validation
  • The new code was needed to be validated as part of a precaution measure.
  • UNIX scripts were created to compare source tree (deployed code).
  • All Autosys jobs were verified with UNIX scripts
  • Testing of Code.
  • Unit testing, system integration testing.
  • Database Involvement
  • The database in use was Oracle, and Teradata.
  • After daily execution of code through Autosys jobs, the data was being loaded into tables. The impact on database was correctly analyzed. The data from dry run was being loaded into the dummy database tables created.
  • Operations performed in database:
  • 1. Creation of tables, dropping of tables.
  • 2. Generating DDL and DML of tables.
  • 3. Loading the data.
  • 4. Firing queries on database in order to validate the data.
  • Major challenge involved in handling databases.
  • As both side (source database and target database) data types should be compatible for moving of proper data, so that was needed to be analyzed.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Creation of Ab-initio graphs
  • Ab-initio graph were developed in order to create cross reference of these two Bank's data
  • Worked as Lead developer for this request.
  • This responsibility involved grooming new resources coming for this request, managing and allocating work to new resources and handling the main development work.
  • 2. Migration of code and server to new version of ab initio 3.0.
  • The request was to migrate the code from one server to another server. In this project along with server migration the new code development was involved. Code was needed to migrate to new ab initio version 3.0. So graphs from old server were replicated by adding the new functionality available in 3.0 which can enhance the performance and lower the complexity of expressions.
