  • As a Senior Transport Planner, Rakesh has predominantly involved in operational modelling and micro-simulation modelling for UK region. His roles include modelling in Vissim, LinSig & Junctions11 and checking the tasks done by the junior colleagues, co-ordination with UK LPOs in getting the work done with GTC team and leading the resource sharing call to arrange the work to the junior resource.
  • LLDC A12/ Wick Lane Junction and micro-simulation modelling (LMAP & VMAP): Involved in development of LinSig and Vissim base models (LMAP & VMAP) for A12/ Wick Lane network as per TfL guidelines, data analysis and preparation of LMAP and VMAP Stage 2, 3 & 5 modelling report. Actively involved in submission of LMAP & VMAP stages as per TfL guidelines.
  • Splethorne & Embridge LCWIP Junction modelling: Involved in Base & DS models check, guiding the junior colleagues in developing the models, co-ordination between UK team & GTC team for on-time submission. Both these projects are active travel projects to test & understand the individual junctions’ operation with existing condition and future designs.
  • Old Kent Road (OKR) Junction modelling (LMAP): This is a TfL project and includes LMAP process. The scope of the project is to calibrate and validate the base models and test the future based models. Includes 10 regions with more than 40 junctions to model. Involved in data processing, model checks, co-ordination between GTC team & UK team in smooth submission of the models.
  • Coventry Whitley Interchange Project: The scope of the project is to calibrate & validate the base model and test the various design options. Involved in model checks, co-ordination between UK team & GTC team. This is a Vissim model and the network comprises of 2 signalised junctions and a roundabout including a flyover. Dynamic assignment is adopted.
  • Walton Road LinSig Project: This project is a combination of two junctions which include a roundabout and signalized junction. Involved in the calibration & validation of the base model. Testing the future designs and analysing the network operations.
  • A1134 Cycling Plus (Micro-simulation): Involved in development of Vissim model with network changes for Do-something scenario, VAP files updates, model checks and analysis of results. This model includes a dedicated cycle lane running the entire length of the corridor.
  • Edinburgh LinSig: Involved in development of LinSig models for Gorgie Dalry and Portabello areas. This includes matrix estimation for both the models with various scenarios which includes route diversion and route closures.
  • A338 Salisbury Junctions: Involved in development of Vissim base model for Salisbury junctions, data analysis, calibration and validation of the model, analysis of results and preparation of modelling report.
  • Merseytravel Green Bus Routes: Involved in development of Vissim model for Merseytravel Green Bus Routes (3 corridors), network changes for Do-something scenario, network checks for the models, process of forecasting the horizon year flows for Vissim models using SATURN flows, analysis of results and submission of modelling report.
  • Pembroke Dock: Involved in computation of relative flows and vehicle inputs for Base, Do-Minimum & Do-Something scenarios for various options, running the results and computing in spreadsheet for Journey times, Network performance, Node evaluation and Queue results.
  • Heathrow: Involved in preparation of flow diagram for 22 junctions around Heathrow Airport in spreadsheet, developing the LinSig model and performed matrix estimation for balancing of flows.
  • In addition to the above projects, Rakesh has worked on: Multiple small-scale ARCADY & PICADY models using Junctions10 software, Multiple small scale LinSig junction modelling, Modelling of small scale VISSIM models.

  • Corridor Improvement Proposal through Micro Simulation: The selected corridor runs from Moosapet to Lakdikapul including Raj Bhavan Road, Telangana Secretariat and Telephone Bhavan Road of length 69Km including 22 junctions (7 signalized & 3 roundabouts). Involved in data analysis, network building, model assignment, preparation of base year model, calibration and validation of base year model, preparation of alternate scenarios, 3D visualization of the traffic movement.
  • Implementation of Cycle Tracks in Hyderabad (India Cycle4Change Challenge): This project is a part of India Cycle4 Change Challenge implemented by Government of India. Involved in preparation of concept plan for proposed cycle tracks, conducted road inventory surveys & road safety audit, micro simulation for pilot corridor.
  • Last and First Mile Connectivity for Hyderabad Metro: Hyderabad city has a metro network of around 66 kms connecting 57 stations. The main objective of this project is to improve the first and last mile connectivity to the stations for convenience and being user friendly. Involved in leading a team in collection of primary and secondary data; analysis of primary and secondary data; identification of physical, network and operational integration proposals to improve the first and last mile connectivity; preparation of technical report and presentations; organizing stakeholder consultations.
  • Techno-Feasibility Study and Economic Feasibility for appropriate Transit System: This is an East – West corridor running from Telangana Assembly to Paradise Metro Station including a link from Assembly to Khairatabad for a total length of 9Km. PRT system is proposed. Involved in review of reports submitted by the Consultants at various stages of projects; preparation of project plans; discussion with various stakeholders.
  • Congestion Mitigation Measures in Hyderabad: The objective of this project is to identify the junctions with major delays in coordination with Traffic Police and provide suitable mitigation plans to improve the traffic flow at junctions. Involved in carrying out reconnaissance survey of the junction; organize traffic and topography data collection; analysis of traffic data and propose geometric as well as traffic control measures at junction.

  • Smart Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan, Amaravati (CRDA): The main objective of the modelling is to know the traffic characteristics of the network. This project is a part of new Capital Development in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Involved in data analysis, network building, model assignment, preparation of base year model, preparation of alternate scenarios and 3D visualization.
  • Standardization of Toll Plaza layout for National Highways: Involved in traffic simulation for the standardization of toll plaza layout for National Highways with various alternatives of Electronic Ticketing Counter (ETC) and Non-Electronic Ticketing Counter (Non-ETC) lanes for cars and goods vehicles separately.
  • Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Tamil Nadu Bharatmala (Lot 4 – Package 8): Total of 6 highways from various parts of Tamil Nadu are included in this project. This project is implemented by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The main objective is to check the feasibility of the existing highways for current & future traffic and suggest the improvement proposals. Involved in conducting traffic surveys, analysis of traffic data, road inventory data & preparation of reports, preparation of various alignment options using google earth, preparation of Schedules (A, B, C & D) and attended client meetings.
  • Detailed Project Report (DPR) for National Highway – 19 in Uttar Pradesh, India: The corridor runs from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh to UP/Bihar Border. The main objective is to check the feasibility of the existing 2 lane road for current & future traffic. Involved in conducting traffic surveys, analysis of traffic data, road inventory data & preparation of reports, preparation of various alignment options using google earth and attended client meetings.
  • Feasibility Study Report for National Highway – 17 & 4A in Goa, India: The corridor NH -17 runs from Patradevi (Maharashtra / Goa Border) to Pollem (Goa / Karnataka Border) and corridor NH – 4A runs from Anmod (Karnataka / Goa Border) to Panaji in Goa. The main objective is to check the feasibility of the existing 2 lane road for current & future traffic. Involved in conducting traffic surveys, analysis of traffic data, road inventory data & preparation of reports, and support in preparation land acquisition drawings & reports.

Estimation of Saturation flow at signalized intersections under heterogeneous traffic conditions using VISSIM 7.0, 07/2014 to 07/2015, The main objective of the study was to estimate the saturation flow at various signalized intersections which is one of the prestigious works taken up by CRRI for the preparation of Indian Highway Capacity Manual (INDO-HCM).
