I am seeking to continue my career as a development practitioner, building on the experience of working as a project coordinator for a Hyderabad-based NGO called Yakshi. I took on multiple roles and responsibilities during my time with the organisation. I interacted with donors, government officials and other NGOs, which helped me understand the functions and challenges of social work in general and NGOs in particular. More importantly, my experience helped me understand the most marginalised communities' realities, aspirations, issues, and needs. Having had a thorough education on the theoretical aspects of development studies and public policy, I want to continue working with marginalised communities to identify the challenges that stunt their (upward) social mobility and find relevant solutions collectively.
My academic journey has been diverse, encompassing three Post Graduate Diplomas in Journalism, International Relations, and Development Studies. These studies, with a specific focus on wealth distribution and socio-economic inequalities in the developing world, have equipped me with a unique perspective on these issues. Additionally, my bachelor's degree in digital art, storytelling, video production, and editing has honed my creative and communication skills, which I have successfully applied in various professional settings. The common thread throughout my education has been a commitment to understanding, raising awareness about, and potentially generating sustainable solutions to the inequalities prevalent in our societies.
Prior to my most recent time in academia, I worked as a journalist for over two years, focusing on the Indian financial sector, including the debt markets, the digital payments industry, and the wider macroeconomic activity in the country. Simultaneously, I also helped establish and develop a family-owned construction company in Hyderabad, India, for five years, starting in 2017.
I believe my diverse yet highly relevant educational and professional background can contribute to your organisation.
Reliable, with excellent time management and communication skills, I consider my desire to make the world a better place my biggest strength. I am adept at working with diverse teams and in high-pressure environments and have a confident and socially amicable personality.
At Yakshi, all of our work is based on the principles and values of ‘popular education’ pedagogy. I helped conduct workshops based on this pedagogy to equip our fellows with an understanding of their rights and build perspectives based on the values of the Constitution of India. I helped design these workshops with the objective of turning the participants—young Adivasi and Dalit women from rural parts of AP and Telangana—into community leaders.
Some of my notable achievements at Yakshi include-
• Organising, facilitating, and documenting capacity-building workshops for the various Dalit and Adivasi community collectives.
• Leading the organisation’s communication with our many funders and delivering periodical (quarterly, half-yearly and annual) reports of our project’s progress.
• Worked as a medium between various donors and beneficiary communities to design, monitor and evaluate projects’ progress and outcomes.
• Creating internal policy documents of various government schemes and policies and making them accessible to the Dalit and Adivasi Communities
• Strengthening our association with local communities through regular visits to understand the on-ground issues and collectively develop solutions.
• Worked with communities to create new, younger leaders and increase the membership of community collectives.
• Helped design and organise capacity-building workshops, which helped them develop livelihood opportunities.
• Documented the lives, achievements, and difficulties of community leaders, members, and local people (Text, Video, and photo)
• Designed multiple income-generating verticals and a concrete plan to make Yakshi self-sustainable in the coming years.
• Developed an extensive strategy to archive the work done by Yakshi and its achievements over the past four decades.
