  • Worked on product families of energy meters and lighting control devices with RF technology at frequencies of 450 to 490 MHz and 900 MHz, and power line communication.Network interface board: The NIC board basically acts as a communication device for the I210+C, I210+, and KV2C family meters, and the end point. Transmitting all the meter data to the end point device, the end point then transfers data to the base station. It uses RF communication of 450 to 470Mhz. Also working on the next gen design with 900Mhz for the transmission frequency.Responsibilities:1. New microcontroller selection and implementation.2. New power design which involves, buck converter design, multiple level LDO converters, power switching section and last gasp super cap circuit design.3. Complete product redesign from concept to final design stage.4. PCB design:Designed and reviewed the RF board that is able to transmit 450Mhz and 900Mhz. it is a 6 Layer PCB with impedance matched trace. layer stack up decision, Test point decision, DFM design, Room creation, placement decision. The RF trace has to be 50 ohms impedance matched. Calculation regarding trace routing and trace thickness decision. Power supply trace thickness calculation and other high speed signal identification and routing with ground copper around it. Designed PCB's with the basic EMI/EMC considerations. RF shield have been implemented to control the emissions over the air.5. RF design and testing:Involved in the RF section design such as tapping resistors, directional coupler and T attenuators. • Consumer project: MPTS (Maximum Power Transfer Solutions): MPTS is power factor corrector equipment that stables Power Factor on line side for any load that is connected to the equipment with the help RLC network thereby also reducing the current consumption on the line side. The system analyses the voltage and current waveforms then decides which capacitor bank to switch on there by reducing the power factor on the line side.
  • MPTS helps heavy electrical manufacturers to maintain a stable power factor thereby reducing the penalties to electricity board. The power capacitors switching are done with the help of thyristor based switching modules.
  • Responsibilities: Involved in the design of Main controller card of the MPTS panel. Involved in the design and testing of the thyristor based switching module. Involved in the mechanical design and assembly of the unit. Involved in designs of heat sink for the heat dissipation of the thyristor modules. Was in charge of the production and testing of the unit at AVALON technologies.
  • Inverter: This is a basic 12V DC to 120VAC converter designed as a proof of concept using the in-house DC relay. Responsibilities: Was involved in the complete design of circuits board module assembly and mechanical assembly as well. Was involved in the selection of the MCU for the design. Has written some basic codes using the AVR studio to do the relay switching and having all the feedback and analyze it. Completed the product to give a pure sine wave at the output by improving the sampling method.
