In my current job at my company, I am in charge of leading and driving improvement at VF partner factories in all areas of responsible sourcing, such as worker rights and safety, environmental sustainability, product stewardship, chemical management, and resource efficiency projects in Bangladesh and Pakistan with support for making sure that $650 million worth of goods are delivered FOB (free on board) and that all red chemicals are phased out of the supply chain through the Chem-IQ screening program. Support lowering the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Bangladesh vendors in the supply chain by 2,000 metric tons per year through better use of resources and practices that save energy and use renewable energy. Also, more than 200 tons of dried textile sludge will be thrown away through a world-class Geocycle co-processing program in 2021 and 2022. Factory Compliance Support
-In partnership with the sourcing, materials, and compliance teams, support suppliers to elevate compliance with our VF audit protocol and improve their audit designations, ultimately leading to the delivery of annual sourcing objectives and laddering up to corporate goals. This will be done by educating factories, giving them training, helping them come up with plans for fixing problems, and acting as a consultant for the development and implementation of CSR policies in the factories.
- Communicate with vendors and factories on new requirements on facility guidelines; provide context, tools, and knowledge for suppliers to prepare ahead of audits.
-Supplier capacity building includes things like giving suppliers training so they can understand VF's policies and know what to do, as well as holding regular supplier summits or workshops.
- Attend and support in joint-collaboration supply chain audit to support VF responsible sourcing assurance team.
Environmental Sustainability
In coordination with Environmental Sustainability leaders at VF –Develop and deliver training to all nominated suppliers on Higg Facilities Environment Module (FEM), greenhouse gas accounting, and Science-Based Targets.
-Communicate, manage, and facilitate the adoption and verification of the Higg FEM throughout the supply chain. Work with the Supply Chain Sustainability team and nominated suppliers to create plans for improving performance that will lead to higher Higg scores.
-Lead partnerships with GIZ , IFC and other NGO partners to upgrade the Vendors energy efficiency.
-Track and report the progress of all environmental sustainability programs.
-Expand VF's existing focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste management, water consumption, wastewater quality, air quality, and greenhouse gas emissions measurement and reduction in South Asia.
- Build environmental sustainability into all aspects of VF's supply chain and responsible sourcing initiatives.
-Ensure VF’s supplier is in compliant with VF Global Wastewater Policy.
Worker Rights and Safety
-Activate VF's Worker Rights strategy, ensuring the sustainable operations team is trained in topics ranging from child rights, gender-based violence, Forced Labor, industrial relations, Fair Wages, among others. Collaborate with the Workers’ Rights team to integrate requirements into relevant VF policies & procedures.
-Assist workers Rights team to implement projects on migrant workers and child labor.
-Make sure that the factories in the area of responsibility meet important safety standards and are inspected for fire, electricity, and building safety.
-Maintain best-in-class life safety assessment, oversight, and improvements by building awareness and management systems to address critical electrical, fire, and safety issues. Such as developing and delivering trainings to factories and assisting them in implementing critical life safety programs at their facilities.
Worker and Community Development
-Collaborate closely with the global WCD team to drive basic needs assessment to determine localized, community-specific needs and bridge the gap with results-focused solutions.
-Regularly review performance with factory, VF management and workers to ensure the WCD programs improve the workers' lives and create value at the factory and the communities which support them.
-Lead projects and programs with WCD partners to provide access to factories and workers and validate that our approach truly benefits the people it is designed to help.
-Assist the WCD team in identifying factories and collaborating with them to achieve goals.
-Closely work with other functional teams on continually supporting workers and their family in VF supply chain, e.g., Country Director, Asia Brands Office, Sourcing and GMS team.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:
-Acts as a key point of contact for external stakeholders in the region of responsibility as it relates to worker rights and labor groups, environmental groups, and others that contact VF or our factories for information.
-When necessary, build trusting, productive relationships with external stakeholders in alignment with strategic objectives and S&R program managers’ input.
-Regularly and proactively engages with local internal stakeholders on factory issues, KPIs, program updates, performance reporting, and supplier engagement.
-Collaborate with counterparts in other regions to share best practices, harmonize global sustainability efforts, and ensure consistency in approach.
-Collaborates internally with various stakeholders on issues or engagements that arise. This includes, but is not limited to: Worker Rights Manager, External Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Environmental Sustainability Manager, Responsible Sourcing Operations, Sourcing leadership in the region, and others.
-Represent the organization in sustainability conferences, forums, and events.
