Flight Manager Duties and Responsibilities

The Flight Manager is supervised by the sending unit dispatch office until destination is reached and is responsible for all personnel assigned on the manifest list.

  • To explain to all personnel at the beginning of travel, transportation arrangements, type of equipment, route of travel, stopping points, ETAs, etc.
  • To have copies of manifests covering all personnel assigned, extra copies available for charter aircraft and submission to receiving ramps, etc., from sending dispatch office.
  • To ensure proper flight following procedures are met. The Flight Manager will immediately notify the ordering office of any changes in pilots, aircraft, destinations, costs, and delays over 30 minutes of scheduled flight plan.
  • Have all personnel within the weight limitations assembled and ready to board aircraft.
  • Provide for safety and welfare of each person assigned to the manifest list.
  • The Flight Manager has total responsibility for ensuring that all passengers arrive at their destination.
  • The Flight Manager will be responsible for signing the Daily Flight Report – Invoices (Form 6500-122 or OAS-23) for all flights (except domestic air carriers – airlines). Southwest policy allows for agency dispatcher, COR, or FMO certification/approval.
  • Ensure all personnel have a copy of their resource order (if applicable).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attending a pre-flight briefing, during which we have been assigned the working positions
    for the upcoming flight (we are also informed of flight details, the schedule and if there are
    passengers with any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers, passengers in
    wheelchairs or the number of infants on board);
  • Carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment, ensuring the
    aircraft is clean and tidy, ensuring that information in the seat pockets is up to date and
    that all meals and stock are on board;
  • Welcoming passengers on board and directing them to their seats;
  • Informing passengers of the aircraft safety procedures and ensuring that all hand luggage
    is securely stored away;
  • Checking all passenger seat belts and galleys are secure prior to rake-off;

    the flight;
  • Serving meals and refreshments to passengers;
  • Selling duty-free goods and advising passengers of any allowance restrictions in force at
    their destination;
  • Reassuring passengers and ensuring that they follow safety procedures correctly in
    emergency situations;
  • Giving first aid to passengers where necessary;
  • Ensuring passengers disembark safely at the end of a flight and checking that there is no
    luggage left in the overhead lockers;
  • Completing paperwork, including writing a flight report
