Aeromodelling

  • Aeromodelling is the activity involving design, development and flying of small air vehicles. It is a very exciting and interesting way to learn, apply and understand science and engineering principles.

Aeromodelling generally involves small sized flying objects like Radio Controlled Aircraft (RC Aircraft), Gliders, Ornithopters, Boomerangs and Paper Planes. Although Aeromodelling looks like a lot of Aerospace/ Aeronautical engineering topic, it involves a lot of interdisciplinary concepts from from various streams of engineering - primarily Aerospace/ Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical and Computer Science. Aeromodelling gives a good understanding of the roles each of these engineering skills play in real aircraft industry and provides enormous opportunities to develop innovative thinking and implementation.

Engine controls

  • Hands on experience on Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC) for Turbomeca TM333-2B1 and TM333-2B2 engines presently installed on ALH. Was heading the Engine controls’ team, which has finalized the controls for the TM333-2C2 (SHAKTI) engine after discussions with Turbomeca specialists.
  • Integrated the engine controls and electrical systems on Cheetah helicopter. All flight testing activities which includes the flight test specification, flight tests and flight test data analysis was carried out. Involved in hot whether, cold weather, high altitude and seal level trials for collecting the data to finalise the flight manual. Numerous suggestions provided to optimize flying Cheetah with TM333 2M2 engine. All the activities were carried out in a record time and handed over to Indian Air Force for user evaluation. Re-engined Cheetah bagged the Golden Peacock award for design excellence for the year 2003-2004.

Involved in Certifying the engine controls system as per FAR – 21, MIL-STD and DEF-STAN00-970 standards.

Followed the MIL-STD and DO 160C for qualifying the LRUs of the engine control system.

I would like mention that M/s Turbomeca (engine manufacturer for ALH) has certified me to carryout first line maintenance on TM 333 2B2 engines. This certification is not restricted to ALH but can carryout and provide necessary advise on all TM 333 2B2 engines installed on any aircraft in the world. This is mainly due to the knowledge I have on gained on engines and engine controls systems

DC load analysis

Project: DC load analysis, which includes all electrical loads on aircraft. Aircrafts operate in different role and missions, the DC load requirements for these conditions are required for adding new load or for optimizing the presently installed load.

Programming language used : C

Roles and contribution:

Team leader – Team size – 1

  • Collection of data of the DC loads on the aircraft
  • Developed the application for the generating the DC load availability for each role and mission
