As a System analyst, on one of the most critical program to the account, provided consultancy and guidance. Client were considering ways to reduce their cost base across the acquired life Insurance system as one of their main cost drivers is MIPS consumption.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Extensive analysis of the batch schedule to ensure the proposed MIPs reductions and do not lead the batch overrun into the online day and thus impact business or customer
  • Created tools to produce Job run times and CPU times for each job which is key driver for MIPS reduction and optimization work
  • In order to assess the impact of the reduction in MIPs, a number of key indicators were analyzed;

Ÿ Average Job runtimes

Ÿ Average Job CPU Utilisation

  • Analyzed most peak hour jobs and Optimized them to save the more stress on system and MIPS/CPU time required to process the jobs.
  • Analyzed and identified the number of redundant CICS regions, batch jobs and decommissioned them.
  • Involved in ‘Smarter scheduling’ of daily batch jobs to avoid slowness of the machine
  • Identified the most CPU consumed jobs, analyzed them with the help of IBM analyzer tool and Optimized the SQLs used within the jobs to save 50% CPU time
  • Analyzed the redundant tables, files and deleted them physically to save more storage space
