The State Fire Marshal's Valor Service Award
- The medallion is worn on the 30" neck ribbon. The color of the neck ribbon is Blue and Gold which depicts the Indiana State Colors. The 2 3/8" Circular Medallion has several symbolic messages engraved in the three-tiered face:
Engraved on the top outer ring are the words "State of Indiana" which signify that the awards is presented by the State Fire Marshal's Office on the behalf of the State of Indiana.
The State Seal is depicted in the medallion center, resting on the Maltese Cross, the fire service symbol of bravery and service, which in turn is resting on th classic five-pointy star, symbolizing the Indiana's 19th star in the National Flag. A laurel of Hoosier Wheat surrounds the state seal.
A partially unfurled banner with the words, Valor. This indicates that the individual receiving this award has demonstrated the willingness to protect others and property, by placing their own life at risk.
The two stars on both sides of the outer ring symbolize the partnership between the State Fire Marshall Office and the Local Fires Service, working together to protect the communities in the great State of Indiana.
