Sanjeev Bansal has more than 10 years of work experience in providing support to various Ministries/ Govt. departments/ Organizations, bilateral and multilateral like, GIZ, UNDP, etc. in the implementation of energy efficiency, energy conservation, energy audits, building energy action plans, demand side management, decarbonization and sustainability activities. The summary of key projects/ activities undertaken in the existing role is as below:

• Providing technical support to GIZ and BYPL for developing the AI-based predictive maintenance roadmap for distribution and power transformers of BYPL network.
• Providing technical support to glass manufacturing industry for the preparation of decarbonization strategy and reducing their scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions.
• Providing support in the preparation of green-growth strategy (5-year plan) for industrial sector of Bangladesh.
• Provided support to UNDP, Benin on demand assessment to size and characterize the market for biomass-fueled self-supply power projects in Benin (Africa) in terms of short, medium and long-term potential for such projects.
• Identification and preparation of RFP/ proposals, creating reports and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and achieve corporate objectives.

1. Providing assistance in G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group (ESWG) related activities with focus on India’s Presidency of G20 for 2021-22

• Identification of key agenda of G20 member countries and international stakeholders.
• Working with stakeholders, in aligning India's efforts multilaterally / bilaterally in areas such as the conducive policies, financing mechanisms and international funding options that support clean energy transition and decarbonization.
• Assist BEE in the development of action plans to promote and enhance energy sustainability, action plans to meet NDC commitments.
• Identifying key successes and barriers in consultation with BEE and other line ministries for India’s flagship programmes relevant to Energy Sustainability and Energy Transition.
• Identifying opportunities and recommendations to overcome the existing barriers based on experience of other G20 member countries.
• Identifying policies and measures that could stimulate investments in energy efficiency, clean energy / energy transition, and all the other aspects of energy sustainability.
• Coordinate with various Central and State Government Ministries / Departments / Organizations / Bodies / Agencies responsible for various theme-related inputs to the Energy Sustainability Working Group (ESWG).
• Carrying out in-depth assessment and evaluation of each theme / sub theme identified by the ESWG with an aim to strengthen the position of India and showcase achievements.
• Preparation of model proposals/agendas/notes/write-ups/action taken reports/progress reports/excel data sheets etc. for the consideration of various line ministries and stakeholders.

2. Preparation of Techno-Commercial Research proposals for availing the funding from philanthropies, multi-lateral / bi-lateral, private and govt. owned organizations/ institutes/ establishments on Clean-Energy Transition projects to achieve India’s Net Zero target through decarbonization technologies viz., green hydrogen, carbon capture & storage.

3. Preparation of Policy framework and implementation as a proof of concept (PoC) for reducing technical losses in distribution transformers (DTs) at Power Distribution Companies (DISCOMs).

1. Preparation of Multi-Sectoral Energy Action Plan and Decision Support Tool (DST) for the state of Punjab

• Mapping of key stakeholder departments w.r.t. supply and demand-side data.
• Collection of historical data w.r.t. supply and demand-side sectors from the associated stakeholder departments.
• Discussions/ Meetings with Senior Officials of the stakeholder departments and apprising them about the objective, scope and roles & responsibilities an outcome of the various activities under the Energy Action Plan.
• Based upon the extensive stakeholder consultation, preparation of department and sector-specific data collection framework for collection of historical primary and secondary data.
• Validation of collected primary and secondary data from the nodal officers of stakeholder departments.
• Preparation of multi-sectoral data model input files for projecting the energy scenario of the state up to 2040.
• Preparation of agenda items, MoMs and reports on baseline assessment, low-carbon scenarios and finally detailed energy action plan (short, medium & long-term recommendations) of the state up to 2040.

2. "Capacity Building of DISCOMs” program for the implementation of Demand Side Management (DSM) measures in Power Utilities.

• Assist DISCOM in the identification and implementation of DSM related activities/ proposals across various consumer categories namely,
• Domestic Sector - Energy Efficient BLDC Ceiling Fans and Super Energy-Efficient ACs.
• Industrial Sector – IE-2 Energy Efficient LT motors in Panipat LT-industrial cluster.
• Preparation of multi-year DSM Action Plan for various consumer categories.
• Assist DISCOM in carrying out and fulfilling various mandatory provisions defined under Perform Achieve & Trade (PAT) Cycle-II (2016-19)
• Assist DISCOM in the preparation of Tender/ RFP, conducting Monitoring & Verification (M&V) and Mandatory Energy Audit (MEA) and finalizing the energy conservation measures in consultation with Empanelled Accredited Energy Auditing firm (EmAEA) under PAT Cycle-II.

1. Implementation of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation activities under Energy Conservation Act-2001 in the state of Punjab.

• Energy Efficiency activities in Govt. Buildings and Schools: Implementation of various energy efficiency demonstration projects with the objective is to replace all existing conventional luminaries with at least BEE 4-star rated LED lamps, fixtures, and conventional fans (80W/100W) with super energy-efficient fans (50W) in Govt. buildings/ institutions and schools across the state of Punjab
• Model Energy Efficient Village Campaign: The objective of this activity is to make entirely electrified villages into model energy efficient village by replacing existing equipment like household lamps, streetlights, and ceiling fans with BEE star-labelled equipment/ appliances in the state of Punjab
• Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) Scheme: To facilitate smooth and timely implementation of various mandatory activities under PAT Rules. Under PAT Cycle-I, the designated consumers in Punjab achieved 5000 MUs and avoided 1000 MW avoided capacity.
• State Energy Efficiency Research & Outreach Programme: Promotion and development of research activities/ projects on energy efficiency and energy conservation in the state through MoU with technical and research institutions under State Energy Efficiency Research & Outreach Program of Ministry of Power. The objective is to strengthen the partnership between policy makers and educational institutions to accelerate energy efficiency and enhance the outreach activities undertaken by PEDA.
• Market Transformation for Energy Efficiency: To accelerate the shift to energy efficient appliances and bring market transformation in various supply and demand-side sectors across the state, demonstration projects were initiated wherein financial assistance was provided by PEDA for the replacement of existing conventional luminaries with BEE star-labelled LED lamps, fixtures, and conventional fans with super energy-efficient fans.
• Standards & Labelling: Issuance of notifications for the efficient use of energy and its conservation in the state regarding the mandatory use of minimum BEE 4-star labelled and ISI marked distribution transformers in consultation with PSPCL within the state of Punjab. Additionally, mandatory use of minimum BEE 4-star labelled, and ISI marked motor pump sets in consultation with PSPCL for all the new tube-well connections in agriculture sector.

2. State level Impact Assessment of Energy Efficiency measures for the FY 2018-19

• Preparation of supply side and demand side sectors (Agriculture, Commercial & Residential Buildings, Municipal, Industries) questionnaire for data collection
• Review of ongoing state level schemes and energy efficiency implementation status by departments/ organizations for the adoption of energy efficiency in their jurisdiction. It included the following:

o Standard and labelling for appliances

o Energy Conservation Building Code for buildings

o Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) for large industries

o Energy Efficiency project in micro, small and medium enterprises

o Energy Efficiency in Agriculture sector

o Energy Efficiency in Municipal sector

3. Implementation of Energy Audit Scheme in Small & Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) and Commercial Buildings

• Designing of Energy Audit Scheme (Level-1 & Level-2)
• Stakeholder consultations which included auditing firms, industrial associations, industrial units and establishments
• Implementation of Energy Audit Scheme and providing financial assistance to auditing firms for conducting energy audits at the designated SMEs and Commercial Buildings
• Achieved Energy savings to the tune of 30 MUs across 30 establishments (9 Buildings and 21 SMEs)

4. Implementation of Waste Heat Recovery in 5 nos. Steel Re-Rolling Mills Cluster

• Organized and high-level discussions with PSCST and industrial associations
• Prepared shortlisting framework of industrial units based upon size, electricity bills details, energy efficiency scope etc.
• Execution, monitoring and verification of waste heat recovery scope in consultation with PSCST and industrial association.
• Providing financial assistance to each of the 5 nos. Re-Rolling Mills for the installation of WHR equipment.
• Verification of energy savings achieved through the installation of WHR equipment in all 5 industrial units and preparation of associated project report.

Preliminary Energy Audits, Detailed Energy Audits and Post-implementation/ M&V energy audits in commercial buildings (Malls/ Hospitals/ Municipal Corporations) and in various Lighting projects

• Data collection, parameter measurement namely, flow, head, power using energy audit instruments and conducting energy analysis.
• Conducting pre-energy audits across commercial buildings having connected load > 100 kW and formulation of feasibility and pre-energy audit reports incorporating identified energy conservation measures along with cost-benefit analysis.
